I wouldn't have a clue, all I know is it'll be high. Correct me if I'm wrong but the cap itself is bullshit. Why does it have to go up at all ofgen have the power to say it stays at x as its the cap not how much energy companies can get away with charging. Then there's the hardship payments to us from the government, that's our money from taxes. We are getting paid back some money to go towards paying the energy companies! Why not just cap the price at an affordable rate rather than line their pockets? But that's the point isn't it the shareholders etc still make money.

Incoherent rant over!

I did complain to OFGEM in regards giving Averages and percentages without real figures to calculate against.

They did say they'd make it clearer and sent information explaining Standing Charges increases and how they got to the figures.

It's easy to work out your own as long as you have the rates. This us a link to Octopus Tariff sheet.

Google your "provider variable tariff" to get your own specific.

Find your region and add the Standing Charges for Gas / Electricity and multiply by 365.

Take annual Electricity usage and multiply by the rate.

Take annual Gas usage and multiply by the rate.

Add all three together for you annual and divide by 12 for monthly.

As we are now in quarterly pricing cycles, you need to work annual by calculating the quarters first as the annual price is dynamic at the moment.

However, this will give an idea to compare to what you see in the news in regards averages.

By pre-empting the next rise and calculating in, can make decisions as to LOCK IN or not.

I advises family members arguing they'd be worse off locking in in March who saw that for period April to October they'd be paying more but could not see that October and April's rises would obliterate any savings in the first period, hence I was telling people to lock on kn March.

One question that needs addressing from the Octopus rates. Why is North Wales Subject to the highest kwh rates and Standing Charges of the rest of the UK, why is London getting away with contributions to the OFGEM compensation scheme for lost credits in failed companies?

It's imbalanced..

they can cap the price at what they like but the simple truth is over half the population simply cannot afford it.if something is not done very very soon a lot of ppl are going to die this winter

If the Price Cap is too extreme, I don't want to think what will happen next.

Guess the tories will have distract us with something to stop us from going mental.

I wonder which trope will be used to calm us down?

The EU?, Covid?, Immigration? Green Levy? Labour?, SNP?, Culture Wars?,there are so many excuses to choose from.

They've had 12 years, less excuses, give us a GE now!

Did anyone see that snippet on Smart Meters and been converted to "pay as you go" if you refuse or can't pay the bill?

Seem there is a plan that cancelling Direct Debits, running up debt, they'll use your Smart Meter.

Pay direct to the supplier, they remotely enable the meter with kwh's they allow. Run out and fail to pay, the meter bombs out on remote disconnection.

Before you think about bypassing the electricity meter, they are loaded with sensors for tampering and also monitor Grid Impedance for by-pass loops or disconnection. They are even notified if you pull the DNO fuse.

No doubt the gas meter has defeat built in to. Mess or bypass, its straight to jail- for theft of Energy.

Meter will notify supplier before you kettle's finushed boiling.

Don't forget:

This is ONLY half if Winter now they are changing quarterly.

Wholesale Gas will rocket in December / January after everyone has been fighting for the little there is.

Another 20% to 40% covering Jan till April.

46p / day - Standing Charge

Gas:

15p / kwh

28p / Standing Charges

Standing Charges

£168 - Electricity

£102 - Gas

£270 Total

Annual kwh multiply by 0.52 - Electric

Annual kwh multiply by 0.15 - Gas
