12 years of tory mismanagement, they have effectively broken Britain.

I think the tory leadership contest is being done the same way the Labour leadership contest let Corbyn in. I think they are people who’ve infiltrated the party and are voting Truss to make sure the tories get kicked out Next GE. Because no one in their right mind would vote for such a plonker,

As a result two years of serious discontent, by that Time a GE will be called and it will be bye bye tories.

What d’ya think, is britain broken, and would it better served by a competent administration?

I don’t believe what you say about Truss I think that is just the case of the conservative circle jerk reaching its conclusion. What consistency even exists in that party anymore?,Their inconsistency is what causes our current predicament.

I do not believe our country is broken it does need a competent leader that believes in it however in my opinion. In my opinion one who isn’t afraid to do what should be done.

. Strangely I cannot find any supporting evidence to suggest that the UK is broken. Unemployed is at an all time low and the less well off have already been given a 37 billion support package . Walk down any high street and you will see loads of people drinking expensive cups of coffee. There are half a million vehicles on the mobility scheme taking care of the less mobile. Ww have lot of care workers looking after the elderly. Rather than being broken, it looks like the UK is bring built on success

Being now in my sixth decade, I would say that the best years to be living in Britain were probably early 1990’s up to the financial crash of 2008.

Politics aside but the last 12 years of Conservative Governance have been pretty abysmal and had it not been for the confectured concept of creating a phony war with the EU, the U.K. could quite easily have ridden the recent storms without the need to fracture and divide the country.

There is now no investment into the communities of the United Kingdom and this is causing real problems.

If the Government is not for the people, what is the point of Government?

This week a little girl was shot in the chest by a scum bag chasing another scum bag into her home. We have never supported BLM but when you step back and look at the crime that occurs you have to ask yourself, 'why fund the police?'

There was the little girl stabbed in Boston in broad daylight a couple of weeks ago too (have a feeling that was a hit at the family), and all the cases of kids carrying knives too. We need to stop pretending we live in a first world country because we don't.

I don’t think anyone can argue with that list. The government can reshuffle, change leaders all they want. They’ve simply run out of any practical ideas, their go to play is blame someone or something else if they are flagging to fire up their base.

If it isn’t the EU, it’s Covid, if it isn’t covid then it’s culture, if it isn’t culture, then immigration.

Many people are sick to death of these excuses. With truss in power it’s going to be more of the same. The last captain of the S.S Tory, promoted because all the other captains either bailed or were thrown overboard for incompetence. The ship is sinking even faster now, not long until it’s drowns into the murky depths of oblivion.

. Anyone using roads and railways knows that they are in working order. Currency movements are simply a question of swings and roundabouts as are interest rates. All urgent cases get attended to by the NHS and anyone familiar with the social care system knows that the job gets done . The government have no control over world energy prices

Most people prefer to concentrate on the positives in life and not dwell on all the negatives .

Roads are fucked..

Temporary repairs, patched up unless a Conservative Councillor lives on it where its a full pull up.

3 times in the last two years claimed for damaged bottom ball joints, wheel bearing and track rod ends.

Railways? You must be kidding.

5

1000 excess deaths per week not attributable to COVID. Because the A&E are failure right through.

12 hours lay in an ambulance, A&E stuffed, Doctors over loaded so can't give attention needed, no beds available as backlog to discharge. By the time this process is complete, many that would have otherwise been OK.. are dead!

Raising taxes can actually have the opposite effect of what trying to accomplish as there is less money in the economy to tackle lack of long term investment.

Perversely lowering taxes actually increases revenue for the treasury as was shown with Reaganomics This led to the end of stagflation, stronger GDP growth, and an entrepreneurial revolution in the decades that followed.

However the downside was the widening income gap, and atmosphere of greed that developed with reduced economic mobility, and the national debt tripling in eight years which ultimately reversed the post-World War II trend of a shrinking national debt as percentage of GDP.

I am certainly not advocating this as the social ills that follow on from this probably outweigh any gain’s…

There are no easy answers. Ideally key component of society like Health, Education, Infrastructure (Water, Power, etc) Defence should be ring fenced off from political interference with a budgets set for long term. This is not nationalisation but proper management of our strategic elements.

It’s the political interference that causes waste as one initiative is thrown out to make way for the next flavour of the month as governments change.

I'm not an advocate of small stateism, but honestly the bloated analogy is a good one, perhaps not so much in the way of too much spending.

More so in how lethargic it is.

If you work and can support yourself then everything has been great for the past 12 years.

If Labour won the GE in 2010? Damn right.

Austerity would have been less severe, services would have survived, no Referendum, Better planning for a Viral Outbreak, NHS well funded, No top down reform of the NHS, Better Tax reform, No Corbyn (it is well known the Tories joined the party to vote him in), More Green Energy, and better subsidies for adopters of solar energy, no cuts to social care, a well funded immigration system, legal aid maintained.

So in summary.

All this crap we are going though wasn't of Labour's making (they were not in power for the last 12 years), this is pretty much squarely at the doorstep of the tories.

"Roads are fucked..

Temporary repairs, patched up unless a Conservative Councillor lives on it where its a full pull up.

Railways? You must be kidding.

1000 excess deaths per week not attributable to COVID. Because the A&E are failure right through.

12 hours lay in an ambulance, A&E stuffed, Doctors over loaded so can't give attention needed, no beds available as backlog to discharge. By the time this process is complete, many that would have otherwise been OK.. are dead!

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/a-e-hosptial-trolley-waits-patient-deaths-b2135801.html

It's a shit-show!!

If I drove into potholes on three occasions , I would be examining muydriving and observation skills , not expecting the tax payer to subsudise me .

Deaths from Covid were not unique to the UK people died throughout the world. . Our excess deaths are in the middle of the range so hardly a performance than can be criticised . Problems in the NHS are hardly the governments fault . That should be referred to the management of the NHS . "

You are funny. Of course we can’t blame the Govt for any of this. I mean what could they possibly do to fix anything. Who else can we blame? You are wasted on here, GN News must have a slot for you

"If you work and can support yourself then everything has been great for the past 12 years.

If you’re one of the many who sit on their arse with their cap out waiting for charity then tough- there’s plenty of jobs out there some folk just don’t want to get their hands dirty.

‘Benefits are great until those who pay for them run out of money’

Am, you're easily seduced by the tropes.

Yes, another manufactured excuse by the tories, it’s poor people and the unemployed that are to blame.

There’s that saying it’s not the tools, its the person using the tool.

This government has the tools, it doesn’t know how to use them effectively.

Maybe it’s time to sack the government and find a suitable replacement who will be able to sort this mess out.

Wait, usually you're on board with the Tories handing billions of pounds of public money to their pals.

"12 years of tory mismanagement, they have effectively broken Britain.

Well. Here in soviet Scotland ruled by saint Nic we have rubbish piling high in the capital because of a strike which is nothing to do with the evil Toories

It’s all the doing of a deeply Socialist devolved govt

She is a product of the Tories, if they were not in power then the SNP would not have the support they currently enjoy at the moment. If the tories continue to be belligerent to Scotland in general, the more it pushes Scottish Citizens in the the arms of Nicky and her Nutters. "

Close all the bingo halls. I went once. Was dumbfounded at how many thousands of people nationwide were frittering away hundreds of pounds on a regular basis. People need to be taught how to manage their money. Sorry but the so-called poor don't seem to be pulling in their belts. One woman complaining she uses a food bank with a CAR OUTSIDE!

White supremacy is an ideology that believes whites are racially superior and that all other races should serve them and is apparently the default mindset of Scotland according to an earlier poster.

I believe that is one of our major problems a sense of short-sightedness with regards to the future.

Agree with you on services they are fickle and are by no means any sensible way to base an economy around. But that hits into another issue I believe we have that our prestige is the only thing keeping us afloat.

To counter this I believe we need to have more honesty and a bit of government intervention in rebuilding our critical industries. However people will have to accept higher prices and taxes to accommodate this but I believe the sacrifice is necessary.

If it is a choice of the known variable of taxes, rather the unknown chaos of fuel price rises. I’d rather have a little more money going to something worthwhile rather than something which is ending up in some pockets of some wealthy individual/corporation not doing anything productive.

I’d rather have a little more money going to something worthwhile rather than something which is ending up in some pockets of some wealthy individual/corporation not doing anything productive."

sucks being a individual trying to get your point across. We will see how governments handle inflation and the winter costs.

This is the state of the UK right now. People vote on the basis of this kind of bollocks.

Maybe stop outsourcing things you should do for your self, like negotiating wages and managing your own personal safety.

Tis true, lost our heavy industry base, and believed it we would be fine, how short sighted we were.

We should be looking at rebuilding critical industries, like steel, chemicals, battery, chip manufacturing, green tech and car production.

Cannot continue with the lopsided labour force with services being the main driver of the economy.

But cannot get that into the thick tory grassroots heads.

I am interested in understanding how you equate universal healthcare with not being an individual.

It’s pointless trying to explain how taxes and how they fund a better life to an American, because the structure of their society works differently. Being self sufficient is a core tenant of their being. Almost to the point of religious zealotry.

We seem to forget that they are very different in many aspects to UK society.
