Serious question… how involved are our secret services in the Ukraine situation do you think? Because that nuclear power station business got me thinking that’s something they could sort out in a jiffy.

It all depends on the risk vs reward calculation that was done in whitehall.

Is the reward of deploying them covertly worth the risk of them being found out by the russians.

As good as the SAS are that risk is not zero.

I think one of the points of special forces is that you don't know what they are doing

And if they are, and found by Russia..

Does that not allow Russia to assume the UK has declared war on them?

Plausible deniability.

Probably on stand-by but not actively involved. Any whiff that we have boots in eastern europe then we could provoke a nuclear reaction. It should be a last resort. Stifle the supply to Russia and China to cut off their ability to fund the war.

I know there is special forces out there from Canada already training the locals but I'd be surprised if they were playing any more of an active role beyond intelligence gathering

I agree the goal of any special forces is to train. I would not be surprised if SAS is there a long with other operatives from other nations. It's a goldmine of Intel.

Well the UK has already officially said they don’t sanction mercenaries. Any Brits caught will not be in Ukraine on official business!

like I said plausible deniability. Those men and women know the outcome. They train for that scenario.

There will be "training teams" and "advisors" deployed to train, and gather reliable intel, set up agents.

Closer to the front there maybe members of deniable units carrying certain high lvl direct action but this will be a last resort option if the local units aren't up to the job.

As of yet due to the west not deploying on the ground with troops, there are no deck of cards HVT so our sf will be in a training role only.

Unless the arm chair generals no better

exactly they might have observation teams other than that it's not a direct combat role.

When you they are involved do you mean they are interfering in a war. If they want to get involved they should get involved offically or stay out of it

some might be hidden in the legionnaires for Ukraine. These men sacrifice thier anonymity for the greater good. It's common practice plausible deniability.

I some how doubt that, why hide amongst others, they can hide themselves pretty well.

Also, why would they be in Ukraine, seems Ukraine is doing a good enough themselves.

Intelligence gathering on battle front is pointless, you've missed the boat at this point.
