Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones ordered to pay $4.1m over false Sandy Hook claims

Far-right Infowars owner faced defamation trial for repeatedly saying the school shooting was a hoax.

The jury in Alex Jones’s defamation trial on Thursday ordered the far-right conspiracy theorist to pay $4.1m in damages over his repeated claims that the deadly Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax.

...

For their part, the plaintiffs’ legal team subjected Jones to a withering cross-examination. In one of the trial’s most memorable episodes, the plaintiffs’ attorney Mark Bankston revealed to Jones that his legal team had “messed up” and provided “every text message” Jones had written in the past two years.

Yeah just proves that many “pundits” don’t really believe the shit they troll, they’re more interested in pushing ratings, and making money out the gullible masses who tune in and listen to their drivel.

the land of saints & sinners

To quote the lawyers for the plaintiffs in this case …..

“Speech is free, but lies you have to pay for”

He has already lost a series of defamation cases brought by parents of the victims by default after failing to produce documents and testimony.

This is just the start of the damages awarded, the courts are not finished with him yet for peddling lunatic unsubstantiated conspiracies.

But at the heart of this are the parents who have to suffer not only loss of their children in this school shooting tragedy but have had to endure over 10 years of lies by a fantasist.

So the result is well deserved if it helps to shut down the people who promote this kind nonsense.

He’s innocent, he’s been framed, the courts are part of the big state init, the gullible will cry.. his behaviour has been abhorrent. Can you imagine being the parent of a murdered Sandy Hook child having to listen to someone spout about it’s all being a hoax. He is morally bankrupt, he should be financially bankrupted.

He’s got off cheap in my opinion.

Some good clips of him in the court when he realises how shit his lawyer was. Hilarious.

Apparently makes 800k a week or a day or a month (I can’t be bothered to go back and look)

He's pretty well funded by the far right in the US. This won't be too much of a big deal for him.

I watched the proceedings on YouTube. The parents' lawyer, armed with the gifted e-mails, was able to hold Jones and his programme producer to account, point out the discrepancies from pre-trial sworn dispositions and make reminders about perjury. Moreover, the judge was taking no BS from the Infowars crew.

Jones could eventually face perjury charges and I wouldn't be surprised if his communications included material relating to Jan 6, damaging to Trump.

They have only decided on compensatory damages, they still need to decide on punitive damages. That could be a LOT higher

And I think this is just the first of at least 3 cases against him. Like a previous poster watched this on YT and the judge was brilliant...she took no crap in her courtroom

"I have just seen a 45 million dollar damages . On top of first ."

I think it is a good start, it needs to be so much money in total that grifters will think twice in the future about trying to profit over such a tragedy.

Just my opinion on the matter.

From the news I saw. There are several more cases to be decided. Person stated could run into millions . In the end .

The punitive damages won’t end up being as high as 45 million…. Under Texas law the maximum a punitive damage punishment can be is 2 x economic + 750k… which works out at about 9 million

Still.. 9 million plus 4.2 million isn’t the worst payout..

Also he has 2 more cases he is fighting at the moment…. Plus there may be purgery charges out of this case for lying under oath.. and it’s not looking great!

Yeah he's the tip of the iceberg.

We're living in the age of misinformation.

My opinion is that we need to start teaching kids in school how to analyse the information they receive. It's the only way to beat it.

The problem there in the US is the GOP are demonising teachers and limiting the scope of what they are allowed to even say in class rooms, to fit their idologies
