"Liz now was to scrap national pay agreements for regional pay where people who live in less expensive parts of the country would get paid less for the same job as someone living elsewhere Agree?? Disagree???" In most industries pay is dictated by supply and demand not the cost of living in the area. Government should not micro manage pay rates. That said where there are specific local recruitment problems for public sector jobs government needs to provide additional funds to attract in workers to fill those roles.

"A u turn already, she is Boris in a skirt policy wise.." She had to… this was going to go down like a lead in all those northern seats… The fact that she also said it would have been an Guinea pig experiment to the force it to nurses, teachers and other public sector workers made it a million times worse!

"Ha ha sign of the future. A U-turn in 24hrs! From Sky... “...by lunchtime today, Ms Truss' team had released a statement insisting "current levels of public sector pay will absolutely be maintained", adding: "Our hard-working frontline staff are the bed rock of society and there will be no proposal taken forward on regional pay boards for civil servants or public sector workers." Doesn’t bode well. I guess this lady is for turning!" Not very Thatcher like at all..

" It didn't age well, eh? Not sure why she doesn't just do it up here though. After all, it's not like she gives a shit about the Scots - and she has nothing to lose in terms of support. She's very much like Thatcher that way. LOL

"New levelling down agenda ![]() Which is how it will be seen, Truss didn't deny it which given the likes of Rees Mogg were out in front of the camera's yesterday would have been difficult.. Saying she was 'misrepesented' is wishy washy.. This policy will come back in some form if she's PM but after the next GE if they get in again ..

Has anyone noticed if you put strings on truss she would make the perfect puppet? I keep on thinking thunderbirds villain every time she is on the telly." Well for the rest of her tenure that will now be my image too !! Damn you ![]() ![]()

"Regional differences in wages already exist. People living in the north of the UK are not paid anything like those in the south. All the levelling up stuff is just crap being spouted by politicians in an effort to make people think they care, which clearly they don't. As far as Truss is concerned her policies change as often as she changes her knickers. She has absolutely no idea what she is doing and is just floundering whenever she is asked a question. Making it up as she goes along until someone points out to her that what she said was not good. The alternative of the smarmy slick boy Sunak is that he is only interested in what is going to make him and his wife more money. Funny how he kept his wife's non dom status quiet for so long. Not only that. If he becomes PM he will be the second consecutive PM to have a criminal record, just like Boris. Remember Sunak got fined for covid breaches. Not much being said about it during the current rounds if speeches. As Private Fraser would have said "We're all doomed" " I don't disagree with any of that but there are no regional differences in the public sector, ignoring London weighting and I think Surrey have an additional payment.. A firefighter in Strathclyde is on the same rate for the role that another one is in Stoke or Weymouth..

Also people working in the nhs in London also get more money than those working in the nhs outside of it and again been in place for many years.
