3 B’s Blair, Brexit, Boston

Just a thought, is Blair responsible for the debacle that is Brexit? His unrestricted immigration policy & statement to “stick it up the Tories in the shires”, could have led to the massive protest vote from those most affected.

Boston - once a sleepy backwater, now the ‘murder capital of the UK’. Massive levels of immigration have seen a dramatic increase in most levels of crime, in particular violent crime & murder. We saw a tragic example just the other day of a nine year old girl stabbed to death. When you hear of crimes these days that are so ghastly, you just know that in almost every case it involves foreigners.

Why would almost all crimes involve a foreigner? Why do think that, what have you read that you can share that supports your last paragraph?

It is the Tories, they have been harping on about the EU since before Blair.

And [Citation Needed] for those crime claims. As I understand it knife crime is overwhelmingly a problem of people born here. But you made your claim, back it up.

(psst this is an example of why people think you have a problem with foreigners and immigration)

I see the knife crime thing as a cultural phenomenon, part of street life. Kids from all backgrounds are engaging in it. I have zero time for street culture by the way.

Boston was "named" homicide capital in 2016. There is little in the way of reports of who held the title before that year or after. I wonder what was happening in 2016.

Homicide rates have been largeky falling since 2003. Hitting lows in 2015. It then went up three years before starting to fall.

In that time, immigration went up loads. Seems to be a small reduction between 2016 and 2018.

Interesting correlation.

As I thought has been made clear many times, I only have an issue with mad or bad ones.

The massive crime increase in a small provincial market town, and a massive increase in foreigners in the area. Would this not cause you to raise an eyebrow?

One, it's cherry picking.

Two, statistical noise. One familial death could cause a spike (if measured by victims). Or three ppl being charged for one murder + cover up would spike if measured by charges. Eh what are the error bars (which will be wide in a small town for the reasons above)

Three, how many homicidal crimes were there in the years before ? It could always have had a problem.

There is never any data.

Just for the record Boris became the Brussels correspondence of the Telegraph in 1989.

He then started his weekly diatribe of untruths about the EU. He lied his way through his career along with misleading the uk public on what the benefits of the EU were. This was way before Blair.

Glad we cleared that up.

"

There is little data on immigrant crime as it is generally broken down by ethnicity. As an aside, crime is more likely to be within any given community and the incidence of hate crime against religious or ethnic minorities has risen since 2016.

ONS data indicates that ethnic minorities have similar levels of criminality to the native population.

There is a 2013 Migration Observatory study that shows no association between the migrant population and violent crime levels.

What is therefore absolutely clear is that there is no information that associates violent crime with immigration. It's an assertion/assumption.

"Have you considered yourself being a bit racist by any chance?! So you’re saying that English people don’t commit crimes at all and only the foreigners coming to the country kill and commit other crimes?! Mate get yourself together, racism it’ll get you no-fucking-where.

I’m certainly not racist if you don’t mind. Where have I ever said or suggested that Brits do not commit crime? "

You refer to foreigner a lot, what exactly is a foreigner?

I’m from Lincolnshire and can confirm Boston was a bit grim a long time before the immigrant population grew. The huge growth in farming production coupled with the low population resulted in the need for workers on the farms and in the food production facilities. As we are aware indigenous workers don’t appear to want such hard work so the businesses had to look elsewhere. Maybe the farmers and food factories should have just closed.

Boston would be a ghost town without those workers helping to keep the place alive.

As it stands those on job seekers in Boston are 0.9 % of the population. Not many benefit immigrants then by that reckoning.

Total benefit claimants are 4%. Which includes disabled etc.

Interestingly the biggest employer in Boston area is the NHS.

This may or may not be where the OP is coming from, but my observations of other ppl are ...

The media stokes up fear. They ahve to report 24/7 on bad stuff.

Ppl think "if there is a stabbing in a small place like Boston, just think how dangerous the world is". They ignore the hundreds of other small places where shit isn't happening.

Similarly, they see an increasenin immigration and think that must be the case. Again, ignoring all the other places where there is an increase and no increase in crime. Or other places with increase in crimes with no big change in homicide.

They resign themselves to not being able to do anything about the bad locals who have lived here for generations.

But will do anything to stop any BAD MEN getting in. So want a zero immigration approach.

Which is an over simplified approach to a complex issue.

I don't think they are anymore scared of foreigners exactly. Or think foreigners are worse than Brits. They are scared or having more bad people in the country.

If you were read his posts in a little more detail you might realise that he regular travels abroad and mixes with a wide variety of nationalities. He simply raised a question on what is a serious issue in a Midlands market town. He is a lot more tolerant and opened minded than many other posters on her many of whom simply sneer at people because they believe that only their opinion is correct

Here's a direct quote from the OP

"When you hear of crimes these days that are so ghastly, you just know that in almost every case it involves foreigners."

And if you think that being xenophobic is fine, but think that people who question xenophobia are "intolerant". Then that's your every right. But we're also allowed to point out how ridiculous that is.

In your opinion.

Uh hu. It is my opinion.

Is it your opinion that we shouldn't be allowed to make fun of your awful posts about foreigners?

Why are they awful and why the need to make fun? Disagree, put an alternative viewpoint by all means. "

Why should we engage in any kind of meaningful debate with your prejudice views against foreigners?

These views are abhorrent, and not worthy of any discussion, and are only worthy of poking fun at.

Why ‘troll’?

: a person who intentionally antagonizes others online by posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive comments or other disruptive content

Just because you disagree with something doesn’t make it offensive or wrong.

I posted earlier about d*unken white Englishmen rolling out of Spoons making a row and looking for a fight. How rude of me, but of course they are fair game."

I have a new concept for you to consider. You asked for an opposing view point. So despite what I just said, I'll give it one last try.

. However the original poster never judged people on the colour of their skin. He never at any stage even mentioned skin colour. .He simply made a correlation between crimes committed and nationality. If people want to praise the attributes of some nationalities, you also have to accept the negatives as well. This applies to everything in life. .

"Just a thought, is Blair responsible for the debacle that is Brexit?

There is never any data.

There will be some unrelated pieces of information and an anti-immigrant assertion followed by an assurance that he has no trouble with any ethnicity as long as they aren't bad. It just so happens that knife crime is associated with foreigners even though there's zero evidence.

Then outrage at being called out on exactly thoughts things.

It gives him the attention he craves but it needs calling out.

I think just one comment per nonsense, bigoted, thread of his now. Maybe you need to visit some of these market towns and see for yourself what life is like in them. . The original poster has raised an issue on a topic which should be of concern to most reasonable people. There are serious issues in Boston..

Do you really think that "most normal people" sit at home spending all day worrying about foreigners like the OP?

What an awful view of humans you have. Have you actually visited Boston in order to assess what the town is actually like or are you just making an assumption.? The original poster raised an issue which concerns many people. I prefer to listen to the views of local residents who are familiar with the various problems caused by local issues . Consideration for the views of other people is important to a lot of people and not something to be sneered at.

Now you're suggesting people from Boston are judging others by their nationality. This is even more insulting. Very rude of you.

Travelling abroad and mixing with other nationalities, who would have thought that was even a thing, I don't think it will catch on

A lot more tolerant? By conflating information that is statistically unbalanced to make a negative point about foreigners, does that really appear to be open minded and tolerant, to you?

Study the court records ."

Wow. The Original Poster!

Clearly trolling people, or a deeply unpleasant person, in an even worse way.

Posts intentionally racist comments then spends hours trying to defend himself from accusations of racism.

Let's hope it's trolling.

A correlation that does not, actually, exist.

See what you can find.

What are the negatives of British nationality, out of interest, Pat?

OP I see what you have done here…..

You have used a spurious correlation of statistics in a misleading fashion, to trick and promote an argument into believing something other than what the data shows.

As in an increase in immigration must be the cause of an increase in crime. Therefore all foreigners must be criminals.

Following the same logic the more films Nicolas Cage appears in year seems to be directly related to the number of people drowning by falling into as swimming pool. As drownings increase as the number of films Nicolas Cage is in per year increases.

I’m sure I can also correlate cheese consumption per capita to the number of people who die by becoming tangled up in their bed sheets…

Correction - it wasn't Tony Blair's unrestricted immigration policy - it was Margaret Thatcher and John Major's

The policies which opened Britain's borders were the Single European Act of 1986 and Thde Maastricht Treaty of 1992

Mass immigration as a result of these policies was already happening when Tony Blair came to power - continued long after he left and his party lost power and is now at record levels.

While it leaves a nasty taste in my mouth to defend that slimeball - if you're the sort of person who wants someone to blame for mass immigration, it's not Blair - it's the Tories
