Valid immigration concerns or just racist?

My heart and mind is open and liberal. At heart I believe in no borders. I am not a right wing Daily Mail reading fascist. I get immigration, I assume most people do?

What worries me is tens of thousands of young men moving from another continent, as we are led to believe without documentation. We have no idea if they are great people or just mad or bad.

There are many aspects of the multi culti world that I like & enjoy.

Should we be concerned of colonisation? Should we worry that the number one baby male name last year was Mohammed? Should we just keep quiet from fear of being branded a racist? Perhaps it’s wrong also to worry that our next PM , just like the outgoing one is not wedded to this country? Economic chancers that will move / settle wherever they feel suits them best.

The difficulty is that the EU opened their borders, but didn't want those arriving. The immigrants in theory can settle in the first country that they come too, but none of those countries want them, so they end up in France adjacent to the Channel.

Once there, the channel is the solution to the problem that the EU created. The French therefore assist the immigrants to the UK and it then becomes our problem rather than one of the EU.

Ingenious really.

The world today is unrecognisable to the world that I was born into and grew up in. The world that I was born into was unrecognisable from the one my father was born into in the 1930’s.

Go back further and our country and the planet has been changed by war, famine and natural disasters throughout its history.

What is going on now has been going on for thousands of years and it won’t ever change.

This country is only one devastating natural disaster away from having our own army of refugees seeking shelter elsewhere, but in the meantime millions around the world continue to be displaced by war, famine and/or their own natural disasters.

The choice is to either be human and accept that the world is continuously evolving and that the changes that this brings about will mean changes at home. Or you can be selfish, close the door and pretend that nothing is happening elsewhere in the world and it doesn’t really matter if a few million foreigners suffer or die.

I’d like our country to be at the forefront of helping people worse of than ourselves and that means spending our money in their countries to make their lives better. It’s called Foreign Aid and we should be spending more if we don’t want people knocking on our door in their millions.

Nice story. Did you think that up all by yourself? I doubt it.

Look at how many refugees/asylum seekers are accepted into other European countries compared to the U.K.

The actual facts turn your theory into fantasy pulled straight from the right wing Nationslist chat forums.

I really liked your earlier post but why have you brought ‘right wing’ into it?

How does that explain the millions of traditional Labour voters that backed Johnson in Brexit and the last election?

Just because traditional labour voters voted for it, doesnt mean it isnt a right wing policy

Also brexit was not only about immigration

Like it. However, I’m trying to relax before hitting the sack, and you’ve mentioned Salah. How can I sleep now? I can’t get over how Chelsea let him go.

Because newspapers like the Mail and Express have spent decades demonising foreigners.

It is a very sad, but true fact that in the modern world the lower end of the demographic scale in this country has becomes less mobile, less factually informed, more poorly educated and less well off.

It’s not hard to tell someone who has nothing that outsiders are to blame for their ills. Tell them long enough and they will believe it.

We went through all of this with poison that led to the Brexit vote.

I don't want to put words in OPS mouth, but I think what he's getting at is why is right-wing used as a interchangeable term for racist when being right-wing strictly speaking is an economic position. You could be a right-wing libertarian who believes in absolutely no government interference in the economy and complete faith in a free market and believe that part of that completely free market is open borders. Maybe I'm completely misinterpreting what he's getting at though

No, far from it. That’s not my nature. I’m genuinely puzzled as to who ‘right wingers’ are. I suppose there are a few nutters about, just as there are some people that dislike anyone from abroad. I do find it odd that people on here blame Sun & Mail readers for everything, assuming they are thick (Sun) or elderly and gullible (Mail) people really do exaggerate the influence of newspapers that have a fraction of the readership compared to decades back. Or they are just pulling out a tired old cliche in n the belief it makes them look clever.

Mind you, I’m also confused at the almost ‘cult like’ following that Johnson has with otherwise quite bright people. They feel he has been hard done by and ignore the constant lies and bullshit that he spouts.

Interesting, so does that mean Americans are xenophobic racists?

China has an impact here. They have sucked all of the manufacturing jobs from most of the world. Add to that growing population in warmer countries and it’s a perfect storm . People with little hope and nothing to do.

One of the saddest observations is the African guys in French, Spanish, Italian holiday resorts, dodging the police to sell fake goods & trinkets, all made in Asia, mainly China. Nothing made in their own countries.

It's very simple really.

Do you feel you should personally be able to move to any country in the world and live and work there ?

I do.

Which ultimately means not denying others the right to do the same.

They would be right wing yes. Along with UKIP, BNP, Reform, whatever shite Lawrence fox is peddling these days.

The policies are a dead give away, but the language they use is usually pretty decent indicator if their leaning too.

If it looks and sounds fascist it usually is.

And considering that the VAST majority of terrorist threats in the USA come from domestic white supremacist groups. Yeah using terrorism in an immigration argument is a little daft.

Are you worried about the number one baby male name being Mohammed ?

Yes I am. Am I a racist? "

"Mexico US borders are inundated with immigrants. Texas governor sent out the national guard with orders to return immigrants to Mexican border.

And why? because Biden has a record HIGH of stopping migrants at the border...

It is the GOP trying to rewrite the narrative. isn't vetting process warranted yes or no?

Strawman, vetting has nothing to do with Abbot Sending the national guard to return people to the border. it's is again I ask is vetting a better process than just letting immigration just happen .

Vetting is the immigration that happens right now

Vetting is a valid reason 9/11 ring a bell ? Send them back until you can verify is that so ridiculous?

The 9/11 terrorist were from Mexico,

Rather be safe then going blindly into a situation like that again. DHS snagged plenty of other foreign nationals coming thru the Mexican border have they not ?."

l your assumption of it's just " Mexicans" kind of paints you as a racist. Most are from Venezuela. Soo? Your retort again ?

Plenty more Americans get killed every year by other Americans with guns and died on 9/11. If protecting people is your biggest concern then immigration should be way way way down on your list.

"Left wing" and "Right wing" are the most misused terms in political debates. I have used it myself. Traditionally, right wingers believe in less government intervention in economy and low taxes. Left wingers believe in more government intervention and high tax economy, the extreme version of which is socialism.

People with concerns around immigration can be on either side. Denmark's ruling party is left wing but takes a strict stance on immigration. Tories are right wing while also taking a strict stance on immigration.

Surely it would be more Islamophobic than racist (not saying you're either OP). Mohammed is a Muslim name and Islam is a religion not a race

Im Scottish, we don't have guns. We got rid of them the first time someone shot up a school.

Its a valid point. You mention immigration as security concern, so why is that element of security and even linked it to 9/11. Why is one type of security more important than the other if it isn't racially motivated?

Concern by itself doesn't make you racist. But the underlying reasons why you're so concerned probably have to do with who you imagine "Mohammed" is, which is getting in to racist territory.

If it isn't racist, its just fucking weird to be that concerned with that the most popular baby names are.

Agreed. What annoys me even more is that everyone trying to classify themselves and others into one of these groups, mostly thanks to polarised mindsets created by the internet. The moment you take a stance on a single issue, you will be branded a snowflake or bigot by either side. I have been called both, the former when I was criticising the state of gun laws in the US and the latter when I pointed out the problems with a particular religion(I have criticism against all religions except Jainism which has been historically the most peaceful religion)

Well apparently when a a American speaks it's always a gun issues. So what countries take in the most immigrants? All for vetting them maybe we should start sending them over seas to the UK if they not vetted. Hell Biden flying them for free what is a couple extra hours to the UK.

So as to the OP post in my opinion yes there is a concern without being racist. Is a nationality racist? No it is not it's a cultural difference not the color of their skin that dictates the difference.

When you make the argument about "security" and bring something like 9/11 into it then its easy to get there. Especially when the actual topic is around whether or not opinions are racially motivated.

The question wasn't about guns per se, it was about whether the motivation is actually security; protecting American lives, or if the lives don't actually matter just as long as it isn't someone from an other country doing the killing.

The nazis weren't 'right-wing' though and you're just proving the exact point I made by bringing that up. A lot of the rhetoric they used to demonize the Jews was based on Jews having a disproportionate amount of wealth and how that should be redistributed to the German workers. Right-wing literally just means wanting as little government intervention as possible. The Nazis were the polar opposite of that. Ayn Rand who is one of the biggest 'right-wingers'ever wrote essays on why she hated the nazis, apart from the given fact she was Jewish. The nazis were racist and fascist but as I send thats not an interchangeable term with racist

Guns different thread . Post it in USA forum. I speaking immigration which is a major factor for both countries. Is it not ? Otherwise Op would have mentioned guns instead of immigration policy.

""Left wing" and "Right wing" are the most misused terms in political debates.

This really annoys me too. People claiming racism is an exclusively Right-Wing or that right-wing and racist are interchangeable terms. A lot of Communist governments, which by default are as left-wing as its possible to be economically, had extremely racist policies

I havent seen anyone claiming that here. If you want to you will find examples on both sides to suit any argument you want to make, but the balance of averages show right wing policies to be far more exclusionary than left policies. That brings racism with it.

What is a right wing exclusionary policy and where does racism come in to it?

Idi Amin expelling Asians from Uganda in the 70's.

There was a wee right wing guy in germany had an issue with a few ethnic groups in Europe in the late 30's/early 40's.

Theresa May created a "Hostile environment" closer to home pretty recently.

Theres plenty of them, but u can't teach you anything you don't want to Google for yourself.

Fascism is pretty fucking far right. If youre arguing that nazis weren't fascist or if they weren't far-right then youre just dead wrong.

"

You just keep repeating a wrong argument. I'm not denying the Nazis were fascists or racists, but they weren't right-wing. Fascism isn't right-wing, that's the whole fucking point I'm making. You keep using racist and right-wing interchangeably. They're not interchangeable. Right-Wing is a purely economic term.

You mentioned security and terrorism. If youre not able to keep "on topic" then why does everyone else need to meet your standard?

You can talk about things as part of a discussion on something else. Its normal and is pretty much how regular conversation works. Just because you don't want it to apply here doesn't make it so.

That's the result of how political alignment has been shaped across population. There are two areas of debate when it comes to immigration - economic issues of how to sustain social welfare with refugees coming in and social issues around how to assimilate them culturally.

Right wing conservatives are more concerned about the social issues. So right wing political parties stuck to that stance. Left wing political parties should logically be concerned about the economic issues. But most left wing parties commited political suicide by not talking about that. They took a pro-immigration stance to attract middle class liberals and lost working class people in the process. Denmark Social Democrats are one of the very few left wing parties who were shrewd enough to understand this and take the right stance.

I think that's maybe the problem,

Nobody "jumped" you. Nobody made any commends about you personally but it feels a wee bit like mentioning it has made you take it personally?

For what it's worth, assuming that economic migrants are more likely to be dangerous to anyone has been proven to be wrong over and over again, so believing it in 2022 is probably a wee bit racist.

America, "the great experiment" is as im sure you know an entire nation bourne of immigrants. A few hundred years is all that separates you and them.

Pointing out a flaw in an argument is not deflecting. it is pointing out a flaw in the argument.

"So as to the OPs original statement .. don't be fools you never know what is coming and that intent by a open immigration policy. Protect your own to the best of your ability. Strangers miles away or kilometers away have 0 influence on you. Until a election. Then everyone goes ballistic. Take it from me. Family friends are more important than a collective mindset. Because who do rely on someone staring you wrong 3000 miles away or you inner circle. Choices immigration is a serious threat.

Eh? eh what ? Explain? Is expected better from you

""Left wing" and "Right wing" are the most misused terms in political debates.

All valid points, based on economic reasons . How do you square any of this with the OPs concern that Mohammed is the most popular boys name in Britain

His issue is obviously with cultural clashes. Whether he is right wing or left wing depends on his economic views.

Left/Right is not just about economics"

Left/Right has always been about economics. The commonly agreed upon graph has two axes - left-right axe based on economic views and authoritarian/liberal based on social views. It's the political debaters on the internet who seem to attach left/right to social issues. There are right wing libertarians who are socially liberals and left wing authoritarians who are socially conservative.

Theres considerably more to whether something is left or right leaning than economics.

Unless this is a joke based on the nonsense on this thread already? "

Left/Right definition itself came from 19th century politics where pro-socialists sat on the left side of the parliament and pro-free market politicians sat on the right. It's very recently that some people started attaching left wing to liberal social outlook and right wing to Conservative social outlook. Then where do right libertarians belong? They believe that a government should not intervene either in economic matters of in social matters. They believe in complete individual freedom for everyone.

Simply not true.

They are political ideologies, not economic ones. Each have what are considered left or right economic principles, but the terms themselves don't exclusively define economic policies.

As mentioned there are multiple models of how political theories work, this is one of them.

Secondly this page would still have the Nazi's on the right. Top Right more specifically.

1) therea nothing on that website that supports your argument that nazis weren't far right. Or that left/right is purely an economic spectrum.

2) Jesus fuckibg christ! Posting a link to a website isn't any sort of recourse. Form your own thoughts, use your words. Read something an create an original opinion based on it.

I cant promise you won't still look like a fucking idiot but at least you'll be original. And if you can't be clever then surely that's worth something.

Do you mean the bit specifically about Frances national front? The bit that says even thought they had policies that leant one way, they were traditionally another?

Is that the bit that completely undermines your point that you think proves it?

Or the bit where it says using economics is widely and wrongly used to describe social attributes?

For fuck sake pal youre playing a blinder tonight.

There's only 1 way to settle this. Anybody who fervently believes the Nazis were not right wing should simply go to Israel and debate the matter loudly + publicy there. I'm sure that'll settle the matter once and for all.

At what point did I 'apologise'for the nazis? My grandma was in the holocaust so take that sentence out your fucking mouth. I simply said I don't believe they were right-wing as right-wing is an economic term. Maybe I was wrong about them actually being right-wing economically, but the first point I made still stands. Right and left wing are not cover all terms, they're simply economic terms, as it states in the first fucking paragraph of the link I sent you.

Id argue that claiming they were anything other than fundamentally right wing is going down a scary white-washing and historically wrong path. There be apologetic stances. There are skinheads all over the world who can't wait to tell you how misunderstood Hitler was.

Getting it right is really fucking important for exactly that reason.

Arguing left/right politics as a purely economic spectrum is dead wrong and you won't find anyone who knows what they're talking about who agrees with you.

Honestly you 2 are like pathetic little weasels on a school playground. I've sent you a link to an extremely respected political website compiled by people with a much more vast political knowledge then yourself, that is used by academics in serious works, that proves the point I was making about left and right being economic not social terms but you dismissed it and called me a nazi apologist"

You are trying to take the moral high ground by arguing the only thing right wing about the nazis was their economic policies.

I've admitted I was wrong that nazis weren't right-wing economically. My point still stands that left and right are fundamentally economic terms and as I say the website I provided a link to proves that. I've presented my argument about 20 times already. I've already conceded they were right-wing economically now. But the main point I was making was that left and right are not blanket terms. They are economic terms. Stalin was as far left as you can be, because economically he was a communist. He still imposed a lot of racist and anti Semitic policies. Does that mean he was right-wing? No because the thing that defines someone as left or right is economics. Whether they're socially conservative, anti-immigration, pro gay marriage etc, is not a left or right issue, it's social conservative vs social liberal issue, or an authoritarian vs liberal issue. How hard is that to understand?

Nazi Germany was for the most part a capitalist economy. They were on a war footing for a lot of their time in power obviously, but that alone should be enough to help understand that left/right fundamentally isn't a economic issue.

Its just plain wrong arguing that it is, but you carry on doing so.

Its such a bizarre argument and makes no sense when faced with the overwhelming evidence of every other fact you could have about what make up the political spectrum.

What were you saying about classy comments earlier?

Look, you said a stupid thing and you embarrassed yourself. Instead of understanding where you went wrong you doubled down on the ignorance and dug in deep to a wrong idea.

Theres no measure by which you could consider the nazis to be anything other than right wing. The Right/left wing political spectrum is made up of a million different things, not just economics, which I guess is the biggest point youve missed. Saying it over and over again doesnt make it so, no matter how hard you want it to be.

As an aside to this; For someone who claims to understand the trials of a persecuted people better than most, you sure went to the cultural stereotypes as an insult really fucking fast. Take a long hard look in the mirror mate, maybe neat time you won't make yourself look so disgusting.
