It's being widely reported that unused PPE that cost us billions is gonna be incinerated. They might as well have just piled up all the money + set it on fire.

"It's being widely reported that unused PPE that cost us billions is gonna be incinerated. They might as well have just piled up all the money + set it on fire."

The point of spending billions of tax payers money on PPE was to make the friends and neighbors of the government rich.

Doesn't matter to people who vote Tory if it gets burned or used, as long as public money is siphoned off to the ultra wealthy, we're all good.

Add it to the £11 billion they wasted by paying to much interest in the national debt

Hope that it’s at least incinerated to power some homes . Reckon Sunak’s chances of being Boris’s replacement have now crashed and burned .

tbh I think sunak has less chance because his Indian wife didn't pay taxes on companies not based in the UK, than a technical thing like this. Not unless someone can create a "sold all the gold' strapline.

Oh I agree his tax situation was the 1st thing that really put the kybosh on his chances. The whole billions-of-our-money-pissed-away thing is the final nail in his coffin.

11 Billion Pounds wasted! More than the selling off of the gold reserves done by Gordon Brown.

Talk about incompetence on a grand scale. This government is utterly incapable of managing anything at all.

We have become the sick man of Europe once again.

. Probably a lot better to have too much than to have too little and people dying because of a shortage. At least we can thank the government for saving many lives.

I know you're just here to post the most ridiculous stuff you can think of. But celebrating wasting billions of public money is a bit of a stretch.

You would think, with a response like that, that the UK death toll due to Covid (and vaccines, vaccines, vaccines) would be much lower than comparable countries but, unfortunately it is not.

Global Britain - the gift that keeps on failing.

The friends who were given the billions in overpayments are now a good rich source of Tory donors.

However obtaining a contract is only part of the process. You also have to go through the civil service payment process in order to be paid and nearly all the cases bought by the Good Law Project have failed so far. If you were overpaid steps would be taken to recover the overpayment.

No MP could log on to the government payment process and simply pay a company because they wanted to.

Everything is logged and monitored on a mainframe accounting system . Your chances of overwriting these procedures would be non existent .

struggling on this one if playing on semantics of overpaid. But you are right, the companies were paid exactly the over inflated amount that was intended.

From a government website:

The Department for Health & Social Care (DHSC) lost 75% of the £12 billion it spent on personal protective equipment (PPE) in the first year of the pandemic to inflated prices and kit that did not meet requirements – including fully £4 billion of PPE that will not be used in the NHS and needs to be disposed of.

Yeah, that is rather an inconvenience, isn’t it? Don’t worry though, slipped into the Queen’s Speech (“My Government will…”) was a Procurement Bill by which “Public sector procurement will be simplified to provide new opportunities for small businesses”.

Enough said…

Will still get voted in though.

People who vote Conservative simply don't give a fuck about anything.
