News just in: Royalist realises royalty are treated different to the peasantry! Let's check in again later to see if this leads to an intellectual breakthrough?

"News just in: Royalist realises royalty are treated different to the peasantry! Let's check in again later to see if this leads to an intellectual breakthrough?

(Analysts predict this will be blamed on Angela Raynor, mind)"

Update from City reporter- Learned historians have pointed out that, since the dawn of mankind (aka humankind), over 100,000 years ago, there has never been a society where everyone was treated equally.

In every time, some led and were in power whilst the many followed. That is the way of humanity and in fact in most of the living animal world.

It is also clear that even in democratic republics, where they have disposed of their hereditary monarchy and elect their leaders, those in power still do what they want and not what we, the peasantry, want.

The only difference being in Britain our constitutional monach, the Queen, is recognised world wide as the pinacle of a superb monarch with a 70 year unblemished reputation. No Watergate, no invasion of Ukraine, no genocide, etc. Leave that to the elected politicians. God save the Queen!

The pinnacle of a superb monarch lol. What a load of old clap trap. You are right on one thing though. Throughout history there has always been a dominant class. However, free thinkers have always spoken out against them, while lickspittles cry out in their defence.

If throughout history free thinkers have spoken out effectively with better ideas why don't free thinkers run things?

Those that accept the constraints of a well ordered society live in peace and harmony with their neighbours and it is this that generates stability and prosperity.

Anarchists, who you call "free thinkers", only bring chaos, destruction and frequently death as they all want their own way which is never the way it is.

"Lol, it was the free thinkers who stopped the ruling classes putting kids up chimneys and down the pit. If you want to celebrate the elites, then doff your cap and enjoy your bunting. "

It was the power of united ordinary people who stopped kids going up chimneys. Ordinary women who got the right to vote. Ordinary men and women who fought and died in wars "for King and Country" to ensure the freedom you enjoy.

All this just so some can have the luxury of claiming past progress came from "free thinkers"; whilst the true creaters of real progress are dismissed as "lickspittals".

Thats the point! "ordinary" men and women are the free thinkers, the fighters and the catalyst for change. As someone who did serve on active duty, I find the "old soldier" argument patronising and demeaning.

"What exactly is a free thinker ?"

It appears since, in this sociopolitical context, there are "free thinkers" and "lickspittals" that a "free thinker" is, to all intents and purposes, an anarchist.

However, that definition does not support the view that "Free Thinkers" are an engine for change for the good if the vast majority of ordinary people are lickspittals because they support a monarchy and elected government.

So they are trying to ascribe free thinking to the general populus in order to curry favour.

So it just sounds like free thinkers a minority who feel that there beliefs are superior to everyone else..

Bit off key but up until this weekend I thought England had always been a monarchy in one form or another. Watching a program about the crown jewels it turns out the the country was once a republic that lasted just 11 years following the civil war. Learning never stops it would seem

On the program they said Cromwell ordered the destruction of most of the crown jewels to try to wipe out the legacy of the monarch. He sent his army to Scotland to do the same to their crown jewels but they were successfully spirited away. It's quite an interesting program and should still be on the I player

Great to see everyone coming together and enjoying themselves, street parties everywhere and people going the extra mile to bring communities together. Thats the effect royalty has on the country i couldn't see people being so passionate about a president, i think the weekend has put the republicans back in their box for a few more years.

Street parties everywhere? I saw one small gathering on someone's front lawn in Swanley (Kent) over the four days days. By last Wednesday (one day to go) I had only seen a few houses with flags or bunting on display. Oh, and a few red white and blue balloons.

General lack of interest all round from what I have observed.Nothing compared with previous celebrations, royal or otherwise.

It was the same around here, very muted, I have a lot of respect for the queen but the royal family should be removed when she dies
