"Notice there’s nothing about reducing VAT ..." They did remove VAT from women's sanitary products. How much more Brexit bonus do you want?

"Now I understand why we left the EU... Had they only written that on the side of a bus in the first place." Bought a Pneumatic Henry last year after relegated old one to workshop duties. Was concerned that over half the power, performance would suffer. Nope, I'm well impressed with it and should have got one years ago.

"and faster kettles? but the electric is soo expensive we dare not plug them in ! " Faster kettles are actually more efficient (speaking with my physics degree head on). The longer they take to heat up, the more heat energy they lose to the surroundings. Each litre of water still requires the same amount of energy to raise temp to 100°. If it takes 2 mins to do this rather than 90s then it is losing heat for an extra 30s. Not rocket science!!

"Remoaners. Snore….." Surely you just be proud to be part of making such a fantastic change - more powerful hoovers are obviously what Brexit is all about and has been highlighted as being one of the main benifits. A proud achievement indeed. Well done

The heating element is a resistor. Any increased heat in the tiny amount of circuitry would be infinitesimally small. The same amount of energy is used to boil the water. Boiling water faster just gets you your tea faster

"Now I understand why we left the EU... Had they only written that on the side of a bus in the first place." More "power" being used by any device does not make it better. It just means that it uses more energy. An inefficient vacuum cleaner could use twice as much power to generate the same suction as an efficient one with half of the power rating. No benefit except to the electricity company. Regulation is often needed to drive innovation and benefit the consumer or wider society. Just a distraction headline again

Just a distraction headline again " Agreed that it is just a distraction headline however, when the government has to create a department to find out what Brexit benifits there are then that same department consults readers of the Sun to ask the same question ... something is far wrong. The net result of all that time and money spent trying to find Brexit benifits then comes up with more powerful vacuum cleaners ... No wonder that people who never voted for this shambles shake their heads in disbelief. Just wait until the goverment goes cap in hand to the EU and asks for a Norway type deal where the UK accepts the rules yet has no influence in their making.

Stripping down both motors and vacuum impeller, there is no comparison. If anything, it just proves the old ones were inefficient and the EU were right to force lazy manufacturers to redesign them and we were wrong to object to the new rules. If your new lower power vacuum isn't cutting it and disappointing, then get one with proper design built into it!!

That takes us to demanding cheap things and being surprised when they don't work or to find out that they're built in lower wage economies...

"Notice there’s nothing about reducing VAT ..." "They did remove VAT from women's sanitary products. How much more Brexit bonus do you want?" "Wasn't that an EU decision" It wasn't. In 2016 the EU changed the VAT directive to allow countries to set lower rates on certain items. This allowed the UK to set a rate of 5%, which was the minimum allowed. Thanks to Brexit the UK now has the freedom to scrap the tax altogether, saving todays young girls an estimated £40 over their lifetime. Yay Brexit!
