"The PM of Hungary is Viktor Orban He has been in power for over a decade. He controls virtually all the media in Hungary through friends and supporters. The message of any opposition is drowned out by the 95% supportive media. Orban is openly supporting Russia and happy to trade with them. In addition he is avoiding sanctions on Russia. He is also a very good ally of Donald trump so along with Putin prefers authoritarian single party government. Given the drive by the Tory party to control even more than the present 90% of the media and privatise the BBC should we be fighting back before we follow Hungary’s path? Is this our future? https://apple.news/AIQahP_eHSPK5FFR8uVI2zw" No because we are not the same in the uk as eastern block countries, different way of thinking

"Don’t think anyone be red against there own interests or for billionaires mate only a lunatic would think that ffs " Yer they did Foxy . Voting for Brexit has made U.K. business and individuals along with the state much worse off. That is confirmed by government statistics not labour not remainers but the governments own numbers. The only people to benefit are those who use the tax avoidance as that has been protected. It was the media that rammed the message to the people that Brexit will be good for you. Who owns the media. Yep tax avoiding wealthy individuals. Hungary will eventually be following in Russias footsteps of a fully state controlled media. Remember you only know what you can see, hear or read. If that’s filtered to a bias you don’t know everything. How do you therefore know what is the truth? An independent media is a basic need for democracy.

"Don’t think anyone be red against there own interests or for billionaires mate only a lunatic would think that ffs Yer they did Foxy . An independent media is a basic need for democracy. ahhh yes so it’s only remainers who know the truth jackal I hear ya now lol No that’s not what I’m saying . I’m saying some people only use bias media in their decisions . Equally remainers would have done the same with the guardian. My point was that if only one bias exists then that will be the only agenda in town. I gave the Brexit point to help describe but not very well. My apologies. it’s same point a lot of remainers use tbh mate basically we are bright yous are thick probably why yous lost the vote Who said you're thick? The problem was, the leave campaign was a complete sham, people believed it was a good idea to leave the EU. The media had been sewing lies about the EU for decades. Hence it was relatively easy to get a large number of people, who weren't paying proper attention, to vote leave. isn’t that what’s said after every GE yous where conned and been called thickeas standard a year ago of certain people on here not so much not it’s just implied on the sly now lol look brexit was a while back now totally pointless moaning about the result there’s more important things going on now tbh covid war It's not moaning about the result. It's about the ongoing damage done. Plus it's interesting to discuss why people were persuaded to vote to leave the EU, or for the Tories. Neither of which are beneficial for 99% of the population.when you say talking about the ongoing damage what you really mean is look at what yous have done shame on you then when you say persuaded to vote leave it’s like your saying we don’t have our own minds and are lead like idiots that’s standard narrative on here it’s sly digs off pussies who haven’t balls to come out and say what they mean like I say same shit different day mate Ok I will bite (because I ain’t no pussy and I got balls) - in my opinion, unless you were in the 1% wealthiest people in the UK, and were therefore protecting your ability to continue using tax havens and tax avoidance schemes, or unless you own/work for a company that trades with countries that did not have trade deals with the EU, then yes I do think it was stupid of you to vote for Leave/Brexit because it is only going to negatively impact on your life now and in the future. I have infinitely more respect for someone who can be brave and admit that they regret voting Leave/Brexit rather than people who even now, with growing overwhelming evidence of the negative impact of Brexit, continue to double down and blindly insist it was the right thing to do! Leaving the EU was obviously stupid. Just as predicted. Not everyone who voted leave is stupid. Some small % directly benefitted, as you mentioned. But many others simply weren't paying attention, thought it was a simple thing, believed the drip fed lies over the past 20 years and didn't think too much about it. " And of course there was the promise of an ‘oven ready deal’. Who promised that?

As we still continue to trade with the EU any long term costs will be neglible . How have they treated capital and investment costs ?. With the current energy crisis we can probably safely ignore any short term marginal increased costs from leaving as thesexm will be offset by long term benefits. It’s like saying the middle man HMRC takes a third but on this occasion there is no third. Obviously with tax there are collection and spending costs so it could be a billion her or there so it can’t be nailed to an exact figure . If it was a business there would be no cost of sales so a little benefit. This doesn’t work with tax

" Well here are some newer figures. The Office for Budget Responsibility in February 2022 said that possibly Brexit will cost the UK 4% of its GDP (https://obr.uk/forecasts-in-depth/the-economy-forecast/brexit-analysis/#assumptions). The ONS' latest GDP figure for 2021Q4 give quarterly GDP at £564,812M (https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/grossdomesticproductgdp). A very rough and entirely inaccurate figure for annual GDP can be made by just multiplying by 4 to get £2,259,248Mn as annual GDP. 4% of £2,259,248Mn is £90,370Mn, or £90Bn. Using your measure 32.8% of £90Bn is £28.6Bn. That's close to half of what you are claiming. Of course that GDP figure is probably wildly inaccurate and things will change now that we've come out of the CoViD lockdowns, but those are the latest figures we have.

As for teething problems, we are a major exporter and there will be more teething problems in July. It’s not dealing and adapting to the new vague rules which is the main issue as we export all over the world. It’s the costs that have been added to exporting so in all honesty I don’t believe you’re reading valid publications as you miss the vitally important points for business exporters. One minor point but those figures are after the drop in GDP but I certainly won’t argue that they aren’t correct. They also include the 10.7% increase in house prices along with 7% inflation which again increases the underlying number. It does not detract from the direct losses to actual trade of the ONS estimate of £150B. This is what they stated I didn’t make them up. It’s all about timing in effect as GDP is made up of more than just trade remember, but you know this . But just to clarify even if I hold my hand up in surrender (which I don’t btw) . Can you tell me if your much lower figure is more than the £150m a week we spent to be a member of the EU before Brexit? Please just use your lower figure. Not my ONS reference. I need to be conservative on that bus.

"It does not detract from the direct losses to actual trade of the ONS estimate of £150B. This is what they stated I didn’t make them up." I'm sure you didn't but, since you can't find a document with that number in it, people might start to think it's made up if you keep quoting it. "Can you tell me if your much lower figure is more than the £150m a week we spent to be a member of the EU before Brexit?" No it isn't, even if you take the real figure of £250m a week. But as I hinted at above, I don't agree with your method of working things out. Our problem is that neither of us have any useful figures to work with, partly because it's terribly complicated, but mostly because CoViD has mucked up the economy for the past 2 years. Perhaps we should all just stop arguing for the next 2 years until we have some proper figures to point each other at.

I’m not segueing in the slightest and you will find on here I openly admit if I’m wrong. No harm in that. I can live with the shame. I cannot prove a link to the £150 b but will look for where I read it. So won’t argue however I’m not in the habit of making stuff up and can assure you it was their number not mine. . The net figure was £150 m per week to be a member of the eu and Boris himself admitted this whilst sitting in the bus so that is available in the news media. Try you tube. Could have been the ITV reporter from memory. If you take into account our rebate and the money spent here it calculates to that too. The drop in exports to the EU are hard figures which are not related to covid which I agree skewered figures in 2020. The loss to trade is real also by default the loss to tax revenue is also real . The increase in costs to export also are fact. All undeniable reality. It’s been a long time since Brexit and so far it’s all negative. As I mentioned JRM has no good Brexit benefits and yet he lead the charge. ( nothing to do with tax evasion of course). Even by just using your much improved figures the losses in tax revenue is three to four times as much. Sad but true. Time will tell as you say if the billion a week is correct. Nice to have a debate about figures and reality. Thank you. If we are both half right it’s not good for the younger generation and therefore future of this country.

"The net figure was £150 m per week to be a member of the eu ... But if you press the other button it gives a definitive figure of £212m per week. Even the ONS has two different ideas on how the money should be counted. I despair of ever being able to work out what the actual cost was.

What they are saying is the ONS only records direct transactions between the EU and the U.K. government , however if you then take out the direct payments to U.K. business the net figure is less. Which makes sense. I honestly had never considered the direct payment such as to research projects in universities . It’s a lot of money. I thought it was just a few hundred million. Thanks for that it’s very interesting and also reassuring to know I hadn’t imagined the number. Have a good night.

"Don’t think anyone be red against there own interests or for billionaires mate only a lunatic would think that ffs Yer they did Foxy . An independent media is a basic need for democracy. ahhh yes so it’s only remainers who know the truth jackal I hear ya now lol No that’s not what I’m saying . I’m saying some people only use bias media in their decisions . Equally remainers would have done the same with the guardian. My point was that if only one bias exists then that will be the only agenda in town. I gave the Brexit point to help describe but not very well. My apologies. it’s same point a lot of remainers use tbh mate basically we are bright yous are thick probably why yous lost the vote ‘Yous’ ?weyyyyy grammar and spelling police are out tday you having fun mate lol I thought you would have been a staunch defender of the beautiful English language. ‘Yous’ for fuck sake. and why do you think that mate ? We have a beautiful language and it should be cherished and protected. An adult saying ‘Yous’ is bad enough. Typing it is disgraceful. Shame on you. aw right so they speak lovely where your from mate don’t they pmsl what do you do for fun drive round council estate’s looking down your nose at them the shame is on you fella get a grip I’ll talk and type how I want if you don’t like it don’t respond I grew up on a large Council estate so why would I look down my nose? What an odd comment." cherished and protected aw sorry mate is that what you are doing and I thought you where just having a pop lol

Is this our future? https://apple.news/AIQahP_eHSPK5FFR8uVI2zw" What total bollocks.

"It won't make a blind bit of difference. With or without the BBC there are many reasonable discussions that mass media already never allow. Take covering up for Jimmy Saville for example. It's part of the establishment, itself a many headed hydra, and as such changes to it won't affect much in the grand scheme of things. " In regards to jimmy Saville the NHS were gagged too so maybe find out who did the gagging? I think you will find they work in Westminster. The fa t the Tory party wants to abolish the BBC is a good a reason as ever to keep it. Just as Tony Blair had his run ins. The politicians don’t like anyone with an independent voice that’s loud and can be heard by everyone.

"In regards to jimmy Saville the NHS were gagged too so maybe find out who did the gagging?" The man who did the gagging is already 6 feet under in an anonymous grave. Jimmy Saville was notoriously litigious. Anyone that so much as whispered a thing soon felt the weight of his lawyers bearing down on them. There was no cover up, just lots of people scared of ending up in court if they repeated something they'd heard.

I think the last time a clear cover up was involved was in relation to the MP Cyril Smith as he was caught in the act and yet the police told to back away. John Lydon from the sex pistols claimed he was told to be quiet as he made accusations against Saville but again hearsay .
