"Would it be better that people have a referendum on renewables and investment, should there be a question? Both sides put their arguments together, settle this matter once and for all? or not? What do you think will happen?" If there's one thing we learned from brexit, it's that referendums are pointless, people will vote as they're told to and against their own interests. This is a horrible idea. The money is with the fossil fuels industry, so this is where the vote will go in favour of.

"I work in the fossil fuel sector. We should continue to diverge towards a renewable energy future. I don't think we should cut our noses off entirely from fossils. Until we have the capability to produce enough energy with out it we need to keep ourselves as self supportive as we can, potentially even a small increase to take advantage of the growing need for gas in Europe." Oil and gas ought to be regarded as too precious a resource to just be literally sent up in smoke. Hydrocarbons are the base material for nearly every product required to maintain our civilization. Plastics, drugs, electronics just as starters, these could not exist if we didn't have any oil.

What do you think will happen?" What would the question be? Looks like most countries are heading for renewables but need fossil fuel in the meantime.

And there is research 2020 that has shown that plastic can be made from bacteria that produce ethylene. This completely replaces any form of fossil fuel in the production of plastic as a base material. Ethylene is 'the' base material for 98% of plastic production. Ethylene in the right amounts is actually good for plants too. In the wrong amounts very bad. It's discovery was one of the eureka moments in science as they were actually researching something totally different. Who knew. Buy those boffins a beer.
