"Macron or Le Pen? Macron, maybe not quite by a whisker, is my guess. Macrons Politics has been for the Rich, Le Pen for the People. Who knows where it would go if 'National Rally' won. Interesting times in which we live. Qui n’avance pas, recule. " Look who funds le pen and you may re- consider your view on who she is. She was recently outed by the ex Belgium PM for her party being funded in the most part by the Kremlin.

"i have, that's why i asked, as you are the one pushing the agenda here." The thing with Politics and Politicians is that - one has to experience them over time - and not just jump to a press release (often themselves uniquely steeped in severe political alliances to begin with. Read Le Monde above for proof-perfect of that) or by what you have inherited from your Mum and Dad and the politics of their time, or from the peer-groups in which we all align ourselves in our youth and often temper as we mature. Affiliation for affiliations’ sake simply takes us down a path of least reward and enlightenment, which ultimately clouds our world view down to a single filter of . . . 'I know best - all others laid waste - 'Il n'est pire sourd que celui qui ne veut entendre' You can't 'get' Le Pen (or any politician for that matter) from a series of politically crafted sound-bites. Particularly when you haven't understood the politics of the artisan to begin with. In this regard, Google isn't your friend. Much less the Political Press.

"well they say the gap is narrowing but at the end of the day its up to the French people to decide. I dont think macrons covid pass policy and saying he wanted to piss non vaccinated people off has helped his cause and i doubt all the yellow vests have suddenly changed their minds either. Will they take a chance on LE penn is the question. " Truthfully. I don't think that they will. It may come to a second runoff . . . but OMG! that says so much about French (nay European Politics at the moment). I believe that Macron will just get by. Mouvement des gilets jaunes stopped the show at many of Macrons events this year (and many other years ).

I think the French may want a bit of continuity after covid and now Ukraine with all it's knock on effects.

"And through they both go !! " Same 2 as last time I think. Any idea what party macron would be in if he was a UK politician? I can't see him in a corbyn style Labour party so perhaps an SKS Labour party. Or is he a moderate conservative, middle of the road, maybe slightly right leaning?

Untrustworthy she is, the game she plays is textbook. Make people believe she is a moderate, then get in power, and start dismantling government from within, converting the democratic institutions into a pseudo dictatorship. Her pal Orban did it, so did Putin, so did trump. The French, will no longer have liberty fraternity and equality if she gets in power. It will be oppression, division, and superiority. If France votes her in, we will have an enemy at the gates.

"Maybe this will help with a broader picture of Macron and Russia to date . . . https://www.ft.com/content/c23575d4-f491-4691-84d7-6fd0e93e1ebe There are better French language newspapers that have a better insight, be brave and go find them." Unfortunately your link is behind a paywall so meaningless to those without a subscription. In my opinion Macron is better than Le Pen to lead France and he got my vote on Sunday and will get my vote again in 10 days time. I wonder how many others on here will be casting their vote for the French elections?

"Zut! Imagine us talking about the French Elections in this post? Is there an attraction of voting for Le Pen, aside from the standard right wing populist type stuff that got Trump elected?" Amongst the policies he has sort to reduce employment in the public services. Increase the retirement age. Gave birth to the yellow Jacket movement. Re written terrorism laws which have led to a belief in some quarters that it's a serious erosion of civil rights. His policies have had riots and strikes across France. He cut the military budget. He said he would not allow refugee camps to be allowed in Paris Arrondissements. He has increased the ability of companies to hire and fire. Reducing labour protections for employees. He told employers that they could hire immigrant labour at the wage levels of their home country. He got into trouble with the EU because of this. Recently he has being accused by some in the West and in France as thinking only about France with regard to normalisation of the relationship with Russia (to protect gas and oil supplies) during the attacks on Ukraine. He is best described as centre right which is a slight move from centrist. Le Pen? Well she's not had power yet. Her stance has softened on many issues. Will Macron win? Probably.
