EU leaders and Joe Biden will meet next week to discuss war in Ukraine, but PM has not yet been invited.

Should Johnson even be there?

This is an EU summit to discuss the war with Ukraine.

We’re not in EU so not needed there.

The two Western superpowers are meeting one same day as a Nato meeting. Greta would be proud as it saves jet fuel to travel twice.

Why would they invite a comedian in charge of a small country

The point is, why would they invite the leader of an unrelated country. We're small and have little power now that we're out of the EU.

Also, in fairness, I wouldn't invite Bojo to the opening of a public toilet.

We left the EU in the greatest act of political self-sabotage in living memory.

We are not important and this is a discussion for the big boys and girls.

We are no longer in the room.

Our voice is irrelevant now.

Why should anyone listen to what we have to say ? How are we important as a nation anymore ?

We're Billy No-Mates, which is what some people wished, and they have to live with it (at least for this generation, but once most of the grey vote perish in 25 years time or so, the youngsters whose parents sold them down the river will revert that decision, I have no doubt.)

So India are rumoured to be about to buy millions of barrels of oil off the Russia and refusing to impose sanctions. China are refusing to impose sanctions.

Isn’t it reassuring that these two countries are heralded as our future major trading opportunities.

Just brilliant to know we will be in bed with such upstanding governments. That will be some level playing field …not.

Looks like the Germans have done a deal with Qatar to replace Russian gas. Have we done any deals or will we leave it to market forces?

In case you missed it the uk will be independent of Russian gas and oil completely by the end of the year.If the Germans have done a deal let’s hope it’s not going to take 20 years like EU trade deals . I doubt very much that they will be independent of Russian oil and gas at the end of the year they are to dependent on it hence nord stream 2 that helped contribute to the start of this war in the first place.

Germany will certainly be reliant on Russian energy next winter. Although its agreed a long term deal with Qatar, it now needs to build at least two LNG terminals to receive it.

Interesting your last point. I thought Cameron was mad when he said Brexit could lead to war in Europe. I thought you idiot and what a way to lose credibility. You live and learn.

As for gas we get 40-45% from Norway and our own North Sea fields. 3% direct form Russia in ships. Around 5-7% from Dutch inland gas and 2-5% from the Belgian grid which is connected to Russia. So between 7-8% of our gas is Russian . Qatar is an existing and hopefully growing supplier although no deals to increase have been announced. Our 100% weaning off Russian gas will only happen if Norway, Qatar and probably the US can up the supply. Remember though a lot of other countries will be interested in that up lift and they will be more desperate so will pay higher.

Not sure why you included the EU in germanys ability to source energy? They like everyone else in Europe are free to source from wherever they like so not really an eu restriction is it. Given Germany’s wealth compared to ours they don’t need us worrying do they.

Princes Risborough, Luasanne, Alderney

Just to point out that 35% of uk gas is from russia via third party countries such as netherlands, belgium etc. basically we are paying more for russian gas than if we bought it direct from russia, but the upshot is that we will always rely on russian gas. hope that helps.

And any mainland Europe gas is likely to be redirected away from the insular island to their close neighbours to help make up for the Russians shortfall

I'm not sure if true.... But I read that Norway has to give priority to eea. So we may find them having to divert our supply ...

Not so, the uk has just brought a new gas field on stream the other week which is off the coast of east anglia and there are others such as the jackdaw field that have plenty of gas and condensate it just takes Boris to change his green agenda and we are sorted.

I wondered how long it would take for someone to blame brexit for the war in ukraine.

Hey you started it with blaming the EU for the war! Remember your comment on Nord stream 2 being an EU policy ?

The green agenda isn’t stoping development of any of those fields it’s been the price of oil. It’s now high so will drive developments.

Oil and gas is subsidised too remember .

The oil industry has taken a beating over the last few years with some big players going thump.

Ensco and Rowan the major mobile rig boys had to merge to form Valaris which in turn went belly up with a subsequent disgraceful rescue excluding existing shareholders . The price was £60 per share and they dropped to 8p before the bale out. Now the new guys have it and they are going to coin it in due to the rise in the oil price.

That was nothing to do with the green agenda. The world wasn’t buying enough oil.
