"In this world of conflict, there are only 2 people who need to be talking with each other right now. The leader of the country known as Ukraine And the leader of the country known as Russia Discuss" Considering the US have ONLY supplied smaller, harder to detect weapons in order the the Ukrainian Forces hold off Russia to buy time for the world to respond, at the cost of their own blood. Bigger items would be destroyed by from the air, so being held back to protect it. How much innocent Ukrainian blood needs spilling? As it is the US who is fronting Ukraine for its own benefit, then the two men in the room should be Biden and Putin..

"In this world of conflict, there are only 2 people who need to be talking with each other right now. The leader of the country known as Ukraine And the leader of the country known as Russia Discuss" The only thing that is causing any hesitancy in Putins mind right now is his uncertainty at how Ukraine’s allies will respond if he invades. A conversation between Russia and Ukraine would be very one sided and would go something like this…. “We are taking half your land mass and you are going to step down in favour of a pro-Russian Government. If you don’t we will forcibly take 100% of your land mass and force your removal anyway.” Ukraine needs support from its allies to stand up to the bully that is literally encircling it.

"In this world of conflict, there are only 2 people who need to be talking with each other right now. All he has to do is stand down his troops now and he's won.

"Putin doesn't need to talk to anyone. All he has to do is stand down his troops now and he's won." Pretty much, with one caveat however ? What actually has has won ? What prize does he take home ? What positive does he achieve ? Perhaps in his own country and other allies it may be seen as "he stood up to the West". That may embolden China with their One China policy and they may decide Taiwan need a bit of One China "encouragement" too. And herein lies the problem. Bullies will continue to bully until either they grow bored or they receive hostility back. And being hostile back can make you a bully yourself. I was bullied for a couple of years at school. Punched, kicked, spat on, the usual. I tried to fight back but the bully always ran faster than me and I could never catch him. One day he bullied me and stood 10 feet away, taunting me to chase him. I knew he'd outrun me. What he couldn't outrun was a big stick on the ground. I threw it him, and it hit him in the face. He dropped like a sack of spuds. There was blood everywhere. I am still surprised he did not lose an eye, or his life. He never bullied me again. But in that instance, in standing up to a bully, I had to be a bully myself. I am not proud of it. But the point being, to stand up to Putin, where diplomacy irrecoverably fails after many attempts, we need to hit and hit hard. Putin needs to be so surprised and shocked, he will never bully us again. Financially, militarily, whatever. So long as it takes his breath away.

"Putin doesn't need to invade. By just sitting his troops there he has already fucked the west over. Bumped up gas/oil prices. Given us rising inflation. Crashed our markets....and all without any further sanctions. He is playing the west for muppets!" I've studied ordinary life in Russia and to me it seems quite clear that whilst you won't get super rich, many ordinary people in Russia can eat pizza, take away burgers, shop in supermarkets, fly from glassy & architecturally stunning airports, join in with flashmobs and even setup / run their own businesses. Now don't get me wrong, even Mr Putin isn't perfect. And for sure, the wages are lower in Russia, but have you seen the price of gas in Russia?

Putin needs to be so surprised and shocked, he will never bully us again. Financially, militarily, whatever. So long as it takes his breath away." Hit and hit hard? Maybe. Putin isn't actually bullying the West/NATO - he's pissing us about because he thinks he can. Sadly, after he invaded Crimea, we did nothing to disabuse him of that and we just kept laundering his money. The response will be financial, as threatened (albeit 8 years too late) - no NATO country will be committing troops. That's been established already. However, as you alluded in your final sentence, if you're going to do something like that, you'd better be sure your outcome has the necessary effect. If you'd missed your bully with that stick, he'd probably have kicked fuck out of you. Also, the "bully solution" won't work with China - any more than it would work with the USA. They're both too powerful to be realistically threatened. It might be argued that the Taliban stood up to decades of bullying. First by the Russians and then by (mainly) the USA and UK? Is their resolve to stand their ground less valid because their values are abhorrent? You could make the argument that it is; as it was with the Nazis and The Confederacy. However, applying that judgement to the Russians and the Chinese could be said to be less valid - and it is certainly impossible to do anything about either of them militarily, given the vastness of those countries. If, as you point out, it's necessary to descend to the level of a bully, to avoid being bullied; then, sadly, that doesn't leave much room for anything else, does it? I've said it before, I really hope Putin isn't stupid enough to have his troops invade Ukraine - but you have to ask why the USA and UK are so very certain it's going to happen. They spend all day bigging the possibility up - and then saying a diplomatic solution can be found. So, if they're that desperate for a conflict not to happen - why not stop talking about it as if it's almost certain? It's not as if anyone doesn't know it could happen. We do not need to be reminded. The worst of it all is that, should a war break out, Boris and Biden will say "I told you so" and give us all a load of utter bollocks about how hard they tried to prevent it. I suppose the one saving grace of it all is that none of their citizens' children are going to get sent to die in yet another pointless war. That's a good thing. If that seems heartless of me - consider this; how many of you would have been content to see our troops getting killed in Syria, for nothing, like they were in Afghanistan?
