Boris and Vlad

Ayr

They're disturbingly similar in many ways:

Both proven liars.

Neither can be trusted.

Their word means nothing.

They feel entitled to rule.

They think the rules they enforce do not apply to them.

They are content to enrich their friends from the public purse.

They both have an unrealistic view of how popular they are.

Neither of them was elected to power by the majority of their countries citizens.

I'm not saying Boris is worse than Vlad - he very obviously isn't.

But they do share a number of traits.

If you looked deeply into all the world leaders. Probably a large percentage share these traits. Its the nature of the beast.

I know what you're saying, but....

If 2 presidents need to be talking right now, shouldn't it be the president of Russia and the president of Ukraine?

However, the very name Boris is quite Slavic / Baltic / Eastern so I guess his manipulative mind games and control freakery is to be expected.

Meanwhile, Vlad has kept control of a country full of self centred and hard nosed businessmen (oligarchs) and built a country with swish airports, McDonalds and Mercedes Benz / Dacia, supermarkets, shopping malls etc. Also a country with desperate poverty, but I won't mention the need for food banks in the UK. Nor the trailer parks of the US.

Housing, yeah I know that most people in Russia / Ukraine etc live in life-less, soul-less apartment blocks. So does much of our friendly Europe, such as Germany, Czechia, London. Pretty 3 bed semis are almost unique to UK for average families.

Mr Putin is not perfect, but I do have a lot of time for him and his points of view.

There are many, many more "presidents" from the past USSR who I would more liken to our Boris.

Maybe someone should have listened when Mr Putin came to power and mentioned the possibility of Russia joining NATO.

I have met and spent time with Russian people, so I am not an expert, but I do begin to have a clue about what I'm talking. This does include both the western and russian christmas times.

However, please consider this.

If you was, for example, wealthy and hung, would you let me take your wife away from you?

Indeed, but unlike the Russians, we don't have to have one enforced on us by a rigged electoral system.

We do - but we don't have to.

Believe it or not, Alex Salmond.

Unless you don't think Scotland is a country that holds elections to its own parliament?

Or maybe 2011 isn't recent enough for you?
