Hmm, maybe he's invited them round to his flat for a business discussion about this business matter?

A few drinky winkies won't hurt, will they?

After all, it's not a party, it's just a business meeting at which drinks might or might not have been served.

It's a ploy.

Nothing can happen while it's a police investigation..

The fact that the investigation will go on for years means it's dead in the water.
