Johnson’s problems… Why?

I have a theory that the current problems that Boris Johnson faces are directly connected to the character and attitudes that propelled the Vote Leave campaign.

Questioning the EU based “rules” system was front and centre of the Leave campaign, as was the dismissal of EU “authority.”

Johnson’s antipathy to rules, detail and authority have followed him from Vote Leave into Downing Street and his staff have simply absorbed those concepts.

The attitude that authority and rules don’t apply to Johnson appears to have become embedded into the psyche of all who work in Downing Street and therefore the Beaty of Government is now a moral vacuum.

It’s him - his beliefs, his attitudes and his leadership (or lack of) that has 100% led to this catastrophic situation and yet everyone who voted for Brexit, and for him absolutely must have known that this day was coming - right???

"Garbage"

So a Leaders attitude doesn’t affect the people who work for them?

That is kind of revolutionary thinking.

You are being completely obsequious or simply deflecting.

All Downing Street staff appear to have been acting in a manner that is exceptionalist, disregarding of rules and standards, and sticking two fingers up at (medical) experts.

Who is the King of this attitude?

There's a lot in this - leaders set the culture of their organisation (big or small), and the "rules are for little people" attitude seems to have been pervasive.

He had slowly mounting problems before that but I agree that was the day he handed a loaded gun to his opponents. “Keep your enemies closer still”

To whom is he a hero?

Tbh doing ones job even in the most unprecedented times (albeit predicted and ignored) to a competent level is something we might expect a public servant to aspire to yes?

Doesn't make anyone a hero in doing their job..

Granted on vaccination he deserves recognition, not so much in delaying lockdown one and ignoring the advice from SAGE in Sep 2020 both of which cost extra lives..

How is he a hero? And a hero to who?

The guy is an absolute tool and I don’t think many people think otherwise.

Laughing because he is chucking depth charges at his old boss is not regarding him as being a hero, it is just us laughing at two people, both of whom seem to have issues with their judgement.

So leaders of companies and countries have no influence on the direction and priorities of their staff? They do not define the tone or culture? They do not lead by example?

Interesting.

You have fundamentally misunderstood this.

Cummings was a hero to those of you who voted for Brexit. At least, he should have been because his questionable. methods were the only thing that won the referendum.

His questionable methods, and your vote, also brought to power an incompetent, corrupt, liar.

So, you are correct that BoJos problems started when he removed Cummings. However, the point is, this is the person you voted for. It was hardly well hidden but you chose to look the other way.

Cummings is nobody's hero. It's just amusing that now that he is just highlighting who he is in a different way. Nice and emotive. Free of logic. Like the Brexit campaign.

BoJo's character and personality have not changed, but you and many others voted for him.

Was it a good choice then? Why not now?

"His problems started the day he pissed Cummins off."

Not quite… the problems started the day after he won the election… had a working majority so he didn’t have to listen to the moderates in the party anymore, and could fully lean into what the ERG basically wanted, basically getting rid of the career civil servants and replacing them with his vote leave campaign buddies!!

Is that the best you can manage?

Criticising a slight over-use of the word "basically"?

Awww. Sweet.

I would agree in general. Tone and behaviour are set from the top.

Rules don't apply to BoJo and anything can be said and done and responsibility shirked if it gets what you want in the short term.

I would agree that nobody could possibly have believed that he, or anyone in the Cabinet, is competent to lead this country.

However, despite people knowing that he was sacked for lying and saw h literally hide in a fridge to avoid answering questions he was elected to deliver one of the biggest changes in UK history in addition to everything else that is required to run a country.

If you voted for his party you are responsible for the consequences including the dismantling of legal and press independence.
