I think this is a non story , yes there are shortages but people are definitely making an effort to test more so inevitably far more tests needed..

I just hope the government concentrate on U.K. manufacture not foreign,

European Tests.

UK: 404,382,130 (And only 3rd below the USA & India. World figures)

Russia: 240,400,000

France: 188,795,159

Italy: 138,913,581

Austria: 123,579,209

Denmark: 106,990,781

Germany: 89,622,218 (Germany now charge for tests).

Spain: 66,213,858

I think that we are doing rather well for testing - Which also accounts for high positive figures.

Very well indeed i would say, would be interesting to see if Europe and other countries starting testing as much as us what there actual positive infection figures truly are, stands to reason they are higher than is being published by those respective governments as there testing for it is inadequate to get a true picture.

luckily, despite the failed covid response from englands leaders, the welsh have risen above playing politics and loaned the english 10 million test kits so as to protect the health of their neighbours. a big thankyou to the welsh is very much deserved.

True. We are never going to see the true world picture. We can only look at the published figures and take a guess of common sense really.

Didn't check today (now tested POSITIVE, so no real urgency!) but there were none in any of our local pharmacies earlier this week. When I told someone who said he'd seven or eight 7-day kits so could lend me one or two until stocks resumed, I couldn't help myself: "And don't you think it's bastards like you who have caused the shortage?"

Just to correct one thing.

In Germany tests are paid for by government as was the case for most of 2021.

On 11th October they stopped paying but within a month it was reinstated.

This will carry on until mid March when it will be reviewed.

We run a test centre in Germany and the current rate for lateral flow tests is €12.50 inc test kit and testing fee. We get paid monthly from the German health ministry.

The 89 million figure from Worldvision is well out of date. It has hardly (if at all) changed for weeks.

Costa Blanca Spain...

I would just add to the above that we have to source our own kits.

At the moment we have enough stock for around a month but in the last few weeks have had to search further to maintain regular supplies.

Just to clarify the above.

The German government pays for lateral flow tests. If you test positive then you have to go for a PCR test (mostly run by the German red cross) this is also paid by the government.

However if you just walk in to the Red Cross for a PCR without the positive LF paperwork then you do have to pay. Around €70 last time I looked.

The truth is that they did STOP paying for tests - then panicked in November when their figures went through the roof.

So. Correction YES they did charge until November.

1st time it was Royal Mail Slots actually.

This time because we are testing so many - 3rd in the whole world above 222 countries for Shere number of tests - non of those 222 countries comes close.

Just once believe that 3rd in the World for testing output above 222 other countries and 3rd below two others in the whole world is actually quite the fooking achievement by anyone standard.

Oh and search testing kits shortages in Europe and you will find Germany and others experiencing it too.
