English wine regularly beats other World wines in blind tastings, its come on a lot from the early days of production. It should not be confused with “British” wine which is imported plonk blended to meet a (cheap) price point. | |||

English wine regularly beats other World wines in blind tastings, its come on a lot from the early days of production. It should not be confused with “British” wine which is imported plonk blended to meet a (cheap) price point." For white wines, especially sparkling, that is very true. Quite a few English bubbly's have beaten the big boys from Champagne at their own game. However English red wine still leaves a lot to be desired. A few brave souls are sticking at it but England just doesn't have the climate for reds. | |||

Because the HoC has a restaurant that serves alcohol. "It has numerous bars too. All subsidised. The subsidy is indirect as the cost is absorbed by the running costs of the HOC. My view is why do we need to invest in expensive wine? It’s our money. The only people who benefit are the politicians. Why not provide cheaper wine and use the investment cash for social care where more will benefit. | |||
