To believe we could trade equally with other economic powers on a better level than the EU is just ridiculous fantasy land . Read the detail on all the deals so far and we import more on each, which make the numbers look bigger. The net effect is we lose out more.

Read this link below and see where we really are as an economic force in the Far East. . The Far East as a replacement for the EU is nonsense. They definitely hold the cards.

The US is in decline with its mega debt so not looking good for favourable deals. But who knows maybe chlorinated and growth hormone food may swing it.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-59610019

Blaming the EU and immigrants was the excuse for all our problems. Our problems are due to our incompetent political system and our ridiculously unfair tax system.

The EU was always a good thing for our trade. The rest of the world don’t have equal rules and we don’t have the ability within government to handle the unfair practices of other countries in trade deals. Even the NAO say they need to stop rushing for new deals as they are looking to be bad deals so far.

Still the rich can keep their money safe in our wonderful tax haven. So there’s a Brexit win for some.

Liz Truss for PM?"

The thick-as-mince cheese woman and negotiator of crap trade deals which give other countries what they want, while lowering standards and diminishing our agriculture sector?

Yes, why not, the ludicrous is entirely possible in the mess that is brexit Britain.

As with Trump's dystopia USA, the world is sniggering at "global Britain" and its shambolic buffoon of a "leader"

In complete fairness to Truss, she's delivering the Brexit as expected.

All the stuff you mentioned above is either the point of brexit, or inconsequential to those who planned and executed it in 2016.

It's an old thread so as you would expect its an old link. The very same paper had this just the other day

https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1604612/brexit-news-uk-economy-eu-first-quarter-gdp-eurostat-data-spt

Same paper but two different outcomes.

Bit unfair to compare when half of the EU has been using cheap and plentiful Russian oil and gas to hold their economy up. The Ukraine situation has uncovered some nasty truths it seems.

You do know we’ve had North Sea oil for a number of decades. We shared the spoils with Norway.

Norway now has the second largest Sovereign Wealth fund in the world and we have, erm well err oh yes, decades of incompetent government propped up by North Sea oil revenues and debt at least twice the size of Norway’s wealth fund.

Now that is a nasty truth.

TBH, it took quite a few years for the EU to destroy all of our successful manufacturing industry, so it may take quite a few years to get back to where we are aiming to be, it will not happen overnight but people seem to expect instant results

1. Brussels is a city in Belgium, not in Germany

2. While Greece and Spain are in the EU, they get a seat at the decision making table. the EU can only "dictate" terms to countries outside the block who want to trade with them "for example UK".

3. Both Spain and Greece get a huge value from being part of the common market, not to mention infrastructure grants etc. Just like we had, before people voted for Mogg and some of his pals to get even more rich and powerful.

"The EU" is made up of the member states.

I dunno, if I had strong opinions on a subject, I would at least try to make sure I had a rudimentary understand of what's going on.

But alas, you're not alone, hence the current situation we find ourselves in.

Think you will find Mrs Thatcher was behind that with a free market at any cost mantra. I made a lot of money out of her but even I can see the damage she did . The EU kept us afloat with trade .

If voters had to answer 5 basic questions about what the EU is before being allowed to vote. We'd be in a very different situation right now.

I was not comparing to the EU myself just showing that the same paper as was listed in the OP had two very different stories on the same subject. Late last year it was everything is terrible now they report the opposite. Maybe it's due to a change of staff in between stories
