The difference is that there wasn't social media back then so I don't think politics was discussed as much back then and when it was, it was far friendlier. Not like the insults etc that get thrown around nowadays. I don't think changes happen quickly nowadays, we have one story one week then another the following week and they soon get forgotten and things generally carry on as they were.
