MP 2nd Jobs, there are differences.

What most people want to say is that all MP’s 2nd Jobs are bad and therefore all MP’s are corrupt.

There are differences, where the tories use their 2nd job as instruments to cause further corruption to fester. Labour 2nd Jobs tend to be more focused on Social Justice.

It the typical story they are all corrupt. But if you delve into the stories then you see there is an actual difference.

You see more greed based influencing with those tories in 2nd jobs.

I think tarring the many MP’s who take 2nd jobs who give back to the public is good

What isn’t good is when those MP’s abuse thr 2nd job system for backscatching and lobbying for their paymasters that is trully wrong.

Some papers want to change the narrative of saying just see the other side doing the same, but really the aren’t

There is a very easy solution. Don't allow any MPs to have 2nd jobs. That'd kill any controversy about the issue in the future.

They shouldn't have time for 2nd jobs anyway. Being an MP should be a full time job. And it should be their full focus.

Jobs such as Consulting for any company, journalism, being involved at any level for a business should definitely be band.

Precisely. Geoffrey Cox £82k as an MP, £900k as QC representing British Virgin Islands. Which is his priority?

Unpopular opinion but I think MPs (and Ministers) should be paid a lot more but 2nd jobs banned (unless 100% pro bono with no conflict of interest). Expenses should tightened up to ensure only legitimate business expenses allowed (no duck houses or heating of stables) and MPs should not be allowed to flip their house.

Read the expenses report from 2009 it does make easy reading and a lot of sense. It also exposes how much of a gravy train this lot are on which is why no action has been taken in 12 years.

I agree pay them more but only second jobs can be tasks such as doctor , lawyer , librarian, fireman etc no lobbying, no consultancy , no running a business or have any holdings in which may be linked to any government procurement, no political writings.

The housing expenses and family employee perks are obscene. So they don’t need much of another income.

Also limit all to 10 hours per week so they give full time to being an MP.

Boris pocketed £800k a year before becoming a minister. £20k a year from JCB for no visible work and given the use of JCB private jets. If I try to give a council employee a bottle of wine the sphincter police will be all over us. Yet his ultimate boss is raking it in.

This government does appear to be particularly corrupt. That said we don't think this is a Tory thing, it's a political establishment thing.

People need to stop making this about Labour vs Tory and look at the specific instances and call them out. Who cares if one is less corrupt than the other. None should be corrupt at all!

It is all within the rules or it will be once they have an inquiry into how the shit show hit the media and how they will protect the vulnerable and to normalise the activity.

the tory party didn't like the result of an independent inquiry and decided to change it by changing the rules. there was a public outcry and they changed the rules back a again. the rules clearly don't mean a lot to the tory party or their supporters.

I doubt they care about a public outcry either. I think they saw the headlines in certain right wing papers, shat themselves and then made a screeching Uturn.
