Forgive my ignorance but I don't understand the difference between migrants & asylum seekers in Calais and those at the Poland/Belarus border. Can someone please explain the difference, if there is one?

Not an expert, but the issue in Poland seems to be Belarus pushing migrants towards the polish border to retaliate against EU sanctions against Belarus.

The polish government seems to be more d*unken on whatever Priti Patel takes than her, so they're acting in an even more hard handed way. Besides, numbers might be higher in Poland, and the border is a (largely primeval) forest.

Basically, Belarus sets up some travel agencies that lure people from eg Irak or Afghanistan to Belarus. Once they get there, they push and hound them (literally) over the border. It's similar to Turkey and Morocco using migrants to put pressure on Europe. And Europe acting like absolute cunts.

All parties here are treating humans like shit, no doubt about that. As are the rest of the EU, but also the UK, Australia, the US... It's quite depressing.

I don't think there is a difference between them in the respect of their origins or reasons for wanting to migrate/seek asylum, but in this case they're being used by the Belarus government as a political weapon.

A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her home because of war, violence or persecution, often without warning.

An asylum seeker is someone who is also seeking international protection from dangers in his or her home country, but whose claim for refugee status hasn’t been determined legally.

An immigrant is someone who makes a conscious decision to leave his or her home and move to a foreign country with the intention of settling there.

As for Poland and Belarus, although Lukashenko is orchestral in what is happening as a throw back to EU sanctions, don't forget he, like Assad is a mere puppet for Putin who will be advising and pushing him to it as he us pissed that NATO are on the door step with defence systems, warships and aircraft.

Putin never cared for bombing schools and hospitals in Syria, nor does he care that children will freeze to death on the border of Poland and on top of this there is testing of nuclear powered cruise, deep space hypersonic re-entry misses as well as nuclear powered long range silent torpedoes with nuclear warheads.

Seems Russia enjoys driving helpless people to suffer and become mobile to Europe's Borders as 'punishment' for not towing the line. He claims he is helping with gas supply, truth is, he needs the cash and the EU will overlook it to prevent its populations freezing over winter.

What a truly nice guy.

Ethiopians next to flood the borders of the EU as another country fails and falls into the Abyss.

So why is it acceptable for the Polish to block access to migrants and asylum seekers with troops and razor wire yet the UK is lambasted?

It ain't, nor is it acceptable to lure migrants to Belarus on the promise of entry to Europe.. thus, overwhelming the border.

Poland has suffered occupation by both Nazi Germany and Communist Russia so you can hardly blame them for not wanting undocumented foreigners walking in can you?

The argument of they had to leave in a rush is silly as well. Most women know exactly where all the family passports and birth certs are kept and they're usually all in a handy side bag.

Is that applicable to the migrants in Calais?
