"The boss of Intel didn’t have to mention Brexit but he did so we must have been in the running at one point but Brexit put the nail in the coffin of our bid. That’s a massive spend Intel are planning (£70-80Billion) and if as Boris claimed he wanted a high tech economy it’s an example of why Brexit has hurt us . We could have stayed in and tried to become a High tech economy. The EU weren’t stopping us but Boris insinuated they were. " Yes the uk is ruled out because of brexit this is true the reason being is that they need eu subsidies . In 2021, Intel announced it would look to spend about $20bn to produce semiconductors in Europe. It is likely the company will look at a multi-site approach in order to maximise the amount of subsidies it can receive. so yes the uk MAY have got a part of the business but it hasn't lost anything due to brexit apart from the CHANCE to subsidise a company to come to the uk nothing guaranteed and not for the headline amount either.

"The German Goverment has a "fighting fund" of £8 billion to attract semi-conductor business. Intel are hoping for huge tax breaks and subsidies in order to build this factory. Yes, we lost this one. Annoying but we are still the envy of many countries on our Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Even after Brexit!" as i said they are looking at the multi site approach to maximize subsidies.

"The boss of Intel said they're no longer considering building a factory in the UK because of Brexit. Before the UK left the EU, he also said the country "would have been a site that we would have considered". They're now looking at building in the EU instead. So much ‘winning ‘ These Brexit bonuses keep on coming, don't they?"

" They also want to be close to their market and the subsidies are to offset cheaper labour costs in the far east. It’s a political investment as much as an economic as China has too much sway in the market. Given the push to secure high tech away from China it’s a good thing. We are too exposed and I personally think allowing China to build and operate our nuclear plants is just mad!! Brexit has cost us the chance to benefit whether it’s £20 or £100billion. The result is zero investment either way in the U.K. for intel. Subsidising car manufacturers which were already here is purely down to Brexit.

Sadly like most good things created/invented here over the years we end up manufacturing elsewhere as the profits are so much better. That’s what needs to stop. We need long term investment not profit today. High tech production and lots of it.

It doesn't seem logical on the face of it but appears to be true. I see that they do far more than just phones and have committed the investment in the UK. Not only R&D but to manufacture in Cambridge as well

Sounds like good news for that region and the package you describe for the workers also sounds very good
