"Green" energy??

At least 2 of the big 6 energy companies and several smaller ones claim that ALL of their electricity is produced from renewables. If remotely true then rising gas/oil prices would not affect them.

So why have they jumped electricity prices up??

Its a good point. I suspect its all about smoke and mirrors, with a large element of offsetting.

The truth is there is more green washing going on than down the local launderette

It’s about time these companies were brought to task with all the twisting of figures that goes on

yes it should all be made a lot more transparent definitely, on the same note i notice the eu has quietly slipped through an extension until 2027 for fossil fuel subsidies.

the energy providers buy a product from energy generators/fuel suppliers. the energy generators/fuel suppliers have been provided a regulated market by the government in which to operate. the market is designed to be competative. this means if the suppliers can see the potential to increase profits they will so long as it is within the price cap.

if the government chose to alter the structure of the market to isolate renewables from other methods of generation then green energy prices would remain broadly static. unlike the spanish government who very recently reduced energy bills by 22% by doing this, the tory government choose not to do this.

if pension funds etc chose to divest away from non-green energy then the government would possibly restructure the market accordingly although it remains doubtful as it would affect many tory politicians, family members and associated members of the tory chumocracys personal investments in big oil, mining etc etc.

Not sure if you can call it green but it wouldn't surprise me if the government may discover zeal for nuclear energy. Especially when it's become obvious or economy, jobs and way of life are kind of in the hands of Russia and now France apparently.

How exactly did the Spanish gov reduce bills by 22% ? please explain. The spanish gov cut vat from 21% to 10% recently we only pay 5% in the uk so thats not possible.

When i lived in spain they were giving you a grant to install solar panels after a few years endesa was losing so much revenue they decided to tax solar power hardly a green agenda.

Well, when the wind don't blow n the sun don't shine, where does it come from as hydro, nuclear and other sources don't cut it.

Don't fall for the Green supplier crap. Plant a few trees and buy someone else's carbon allowance.

Our energy grid currently cannot be, nor claim to be Green. There simply isn't enough storage and the choice of burn gas or let the lights go out is not a hard one.

There is a way to supply yourself with electric at 4.5p-5p/kw and currently obtaining the kit to do so, thus saving 15p per kwh.

When solar is weak as its been this week, it's possible to reduce the price paid for supplimential grid power.
