"Can women trust the police after the revelations about how Couzens abused his position as a police officer to get Sarah into his police car? Would you trust your local police to help you if you called them out to a domestic incident?" Evil people work their way into every walk of life. Imagine a country without police

Any TV presenter after Jimmy Savel and any pop star after Gary Glitter? The list goes on so you have to get a grip and realise these are individuals and do not represent the whole of society.

"This is a terrible crime which has been dealt with to the full extent the law allows. It can't be allowed to ruin our trust in the police any more than the actions of killer nurses/doctors or paedophile teachers do within their professions. There's a relatively small number of sick and evil people in all walks of life but we can't base everything we know and trust on the basis of their appalling behaviour. If we do, where does that leave us all? Trusting nobody ever because they might be a killer? What sort of paranoid world would that leave us inhabiting? " Very well put.

Review all whistle blower reports, investigate all complaints, purge the police as best as possible.

"The MET should be disbanded in much the same way the RUC was. Both corrupt institutions. The MET alive only because pig headed politicians cannot see that the project has failed, year in year out. " Yep, same old attitudes. The nhs and care sytems were reviewed with carers, nurse and doctor offenders but the police just don't change. Its no good just booting out cressida dick, the police need a systemic investigation and purge, not investigate themselves but by different forces

"Can women trust the police after the revelations about how Couzens abused his position as a police officer to get Sarah into his police car? Would you trust your local police to help you if you called them out to a domestic incident?" Sara Everard didn't call anyone out to any incident. When you do that, uniformed police officers - plural - are sent to deal with your issue. The police have a hard job to do - especially since there aren't enough of them - and not trusting them makes that job even harder; which is why this case is so devastating for the Met. "The police are the public and the public are the police", to quote Robert Peel. Sadly, since some of the public are right cunts, some of the police will be too. Obviously, working harder to them out of the service has to be a priority. Priti says she's on the case; hopefully, she won't be as ineffective as she usually is. As for women staying safe - don't go anywhere with anyone claiming to be plain clothed police officer. Maintain your distance and ask them to call a female uniformed officer to attend. Given the current climate, even if it turns out that means you're resisting arrest - it's better than what happened to Sarah.
