"So is this situation of our own making? Which event do you think made this unavoidable. Who do you blame? And what do you think the best way to resolve it?" Not entirely - but largely of our own making. How so? Well, even though a lot of events are beyond any government's control, you can make plans for how you're going to mitigate adverse conditions - and, more importantly, you can invest in infrastructure and training for things that are vital to the running of the country. We haven't had that in the UK for at least 25 years; successive Tory-lite and Tory governments have lurched from one crisis to another and learned absolutely fuck all from any of them. It's only 3 years since we last had a CO2 shortage; and here we are - even worse than last time - having learned nothing. That's piss-poor, even by the slow learning standards of the Tories. Brexit and Covid are not to blame - they have merely thrown the UK's pitiful lack of preparedness into sharp relief. All that 'Blitz spirit', 'Keep calm and carry on', 'It'll work out ok, don't worry' attitude - which will do absolutely nothing to solve our current problems - is the preserve of the rich (who won't be affected by any crisis) and utter fucking morons. Right now, we have a PM who is an utter stranger to the reality of the lives of the majority of UK citizens and the consequences they endure due to inept politicians; so it's unsurprising that he doesn't really understand what's going on and he's unable to cope. That said, he's only been in power for a short time - most of the lack of investment in the things we needed to alleviate the worst of what we've been through since he became PM are not his fault. Although the 120,000+ UK Covid deaths are. He's even accepted full responsibility for them - on more than one occasion. As for the best way to resolve it. Who knows? Though a start might be to declare lorry driving a skilled occupation (which it definitely is), try and persuade as many foreign drivers as we can to come here and do the job (a bit like we've been doing for decades with NHS staff) and make their pay and conditions better.

"So is this situation of our own making? Which event do you think made this unavoidable. Who do you blame? And what do you think the best way to resolve it?" Yes it is. As a nation we somehow seem to value personality over competence and until that changes we will never really be a serious country again. Take this weeks hero worshipping of Angela Rayner in some sections of the media (and on social media) for making Raab look like an idiot. Firstly, making Raab look like an idiot is not that hard, but even ignoring that - her heartfelt delivery was full of emotion and passion - but does that mean she would be a competent Cabinet Member or even Leader should Labour get elected?… The answer is no. Angela Merkel is unarguably the greatest post-war Leader that Germany ever had and no-one in Germany voted for her did so because of her sparkling personality, her wit, and her ability to cut down an opponent. She just came across as sincere, competent and capable.
