So china is going to limit online gaming to 1 hour a week for under 18,s a good idea or not?

Good question. I'd say not - unless they're going to provide alternative forms of entertainment. One hour a night might be a better compromise.

Also, they seem to be missing a trick. Gaming is a good way to get your message across, due to the addictive element of its nature. In a state like China, that's a big propaganda opportunity.

Still, they probably will be able to make this happen. Time will tell if it turns out to be the huge mistake their one child policy was.

Its actually 3 hours per week. They can play for an hour on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings only. An extra hour is permissible on holiday days.

State media describes online gaming as "spiritual heroin", and the state has told gaming companies to enforce the new rules.

Funny enough i thought the same thing about the propaganda issue as they are now teaching kids as young as five the philosophy of xi jinping games would have been a good tool to brainwash the kids.

I was listening to a radio debate on this and the contributors were saying that research study after research study has proven that children and teenagers actually benefit from gaming. They cited that . . .

Cognition with regard to thinking, problem-solving, judgement and memory were all improved way beyond other children who didn't do gaming.

Language and language skill improves too.

Oh! And 42 ways to kill you with a magic tea-pot.

If China are looking to dumb-down their people well that's exactly what they will get.

Gamification is a fantastic idea for learning and development. But, we’re not talking about that as I thought it was more around addition. Moderation etc. Too much of anything / one thing is not good

Sorry Cat, you’re right and was agreeing with you. Whilst was referring to the OP in that the Chinese seem to think over a certain amount is addiction and not gamification or learning.

Two reports made and published in 2017 almost contradicted each other as one said can improve some cognitive function but cause negative grey matter issues along with addiction .

The second was far more negative saying it does cause negative outcome for the brain despite cognitive function improving as the improvements only appear to be showing when playing the game not at other times.

Source Science daily.

So gaming may not be that great for you but then they don’t really know yet.

My only experience was my young nephew who became very aggressive if he played for more than an hour and you asked home to stop.

His parents unplugged it permanently and the issue went away while the boy started playing outside with friends again.

Maybe the Chinese know exactly what they’re doing .

Yes the reports I quoted gave different comments but also didn’t actually give a definitive answer yes or no.

I think if you like gaming you will view it’s all good if you don’t it will be all negative and if you’re not bothered you will believe both.

It’s not proven either way so the jury is out.

I’m sure social media saved lives during the lock downs so that’s a good outcome.

It’s all moderation in the end

Play too much and it’s a risk it may be harmful or it could be good .

Play less the effects are less either way.
