I was reading a few threads on here.

For example:

On government corruption:

But my question is this: are there any standards in public life and politics, or is it just one massive popularity contest?

Whatever does the Lockean "social contract" guarantee?

We have the Politicians that we deserve. Unfortunately for this country it appears that we seem to prefer personality over competence.

We ought to be a bit more like the Germans possibly. No one ever voted for Angela Merkel based on her personality and she has been Germany’s longest serving and most popular Chancellor in living memory.

Perhaps at General Elections, candidates be made to put out a detailed CV, and what they are prepared to do for both the National interest and local issues.

That way they can be held to account more and easily.

Plus an interview, by a panel of voters

Maybe put their cv through one of those vetting systems also.
