"The lawyers got involved. Its a good money maker for them. A couple tested positive for covid, and another couple self harmed to avoid deportation. " Yup and it seems that even if your a criminal you’re still allowed to work the system to stay and be supported by the uk

"The BBC reported 50. Apparently the real figure was that the delightful ms patel at the home office started with a list of 90 people she decided to deport. Laywers looking at the cases managed to prove that 83 of them were british citizens who were being wrongly victimised, and of the 7 who were left on the plane there were at least 3 where investigations were incomplete but there was just insufficient time for supporters to dig through the misinformation from the home office. No doubt coming real soon from this will be the home office having to again pay out millions in compensation for their illegal actions, but I'm sure that will be quietly hushed up. It's the Windrush scandal all over again. Just how long will it be before people get the message that the real criminals are the ones currently sitting in the cabinet, hoovering up public funds into their own pockets, taking bribes, conspiring to cause miscarriages of justice, and not giving a shit how many people die because of their actions."

"The legal eagles will be doing well out of it for sure. According to what I read this afternoon some of those that stayed are convicted rapists and murderers that have had a devastating impact on their victims and the families" Quite possibly. But if they are also British citizens and have completed their prison sentences, they are as entitled to live here as every other ex-con. If you are proposing removing all criminals from the UK at the end of their sentences then that is a different discussion, although Ms Patel might then find it quite difficult to find any place that they could be sent to.

I'm sure Tory supporting papers will focus on the worst of the 40 and the others will focus on the ones that look the harshest.

I'm going by the report on the BBC website. Maybe they have it wrong but they don't say the same as you. They say its the law to deport foreign criminals who have had jail for more than a year. At present they are NOT British citizens and only some may be eligible to become British citizens though that is only a may. It seems 18 of the legal challenges were made in the 24hours before departure. If the BBC have their facts correct then no one is suggesting they are in the same category as British criminals.

The claim is they have the right to be british citizens. No idea why they haven't gained it yet, but I wouldn't want some to be deported because they didn't know their rights. Our legal system should provide everyone with a fair defence and not rely on affording a good lawyer or having access to the best information. We need more details. And balance.

" The report says only some may have the right to apply for citizenship. The majority don't. At present none are British citizens with only a few that may be able to apply of which may or May not be successful. The fact 43 did not go is because they are getting legal help so I think the authorities have done everything required. I too agree they should get a fair hearing but if they are not entitled to be here then they should go. There are victims of their crimes who may want them gone to

"50 were due, 7 were on board. Your thoughts??? Shocking waste of taxpayer money. Should have waited till the flight was filled " Its not the flight that's the biggest waste its the tax payers money being spent on the lawyers to get them off the flights that needs to stop ,no doubt Bliars missus is one of them !!

And who would do a better job then ? Easy to criticise harder to come up with alternative solutions, with an 80 seat majority in the HOC and an opposition that is cringeworthy at best. And on about public funds I give you Rayner , what a horrible piece of work that is !

Unfortunately all media is light on details so we have no idea of individual stories, backgrounds, crimes or even health. We see the plane and the numbers and the headlines and are asked to draw generalisations.

The fact they stopped 43 out of 50 leaving shows they know how to do it. They all have a some things in common though. None are British and all have been to prison for a year or more. They have committed crimes in the country that took them in. The victim's of some of these people have to live with the after effects

"50 were due, 7 were on board. Your thoughts??? Shocking waste of taxpayer money. Should have waited till the flight was filled " Bit more to it than that: Was original to be 90 onboard, not 50.. "The estimated cost of a long-haul Home Office charter operation is thought to be about £300,000. With seven people on board that figure equates to about £43,000 for each deportee."
