Sharma's jolly jaunts

Sharma, Cop26 president, has apparently flown to over 30 countries in the last 7 months.

There are 2 minor issues with this.

1: he's been flying all over the place while supposedly an official for climate change talks.

2: As far as I can tell, he hasn't bothered to quarantine once. Even after visiting red list countries.

1. Seriously needs to look at how this looks even he does argue he's on diplomatic business.

2. Whether we like it or not, Crown Servant's do not have to quarantine.

Do you think that maybe, just maybe, somebody at the top of a climate change thingy shouldn't fly the equivalent of 8 times around the Earth in less than a year?

And do you think that maybe, just maybe, people might repsect ministers more if they followed the rules that regular people have to follow all the time?

Maybe you missed out an "if" if you read above. That's why it perhaps didn't read as you intended.

And you did seem to defend him on point 2 as being exempt, implying you're happy for him to skip quarantine.

It still reads as it reads imo.

Whether we like it or not isn't a defence

It really didn't read the way you seemed to intend it to me.

Doesn't matter now, I guess.

We both seem to agree: Sharma is a fucking hypocrite.

Sadly this will all be forgotten prior to the next election when the press vilify labour, liberal and independents.

We never learn even when it’s clearly visible how appalling this government are.

Not sure how a US climate politician has relevance to the U.K. cabinet?

Saying “well look over there” isn’t really a defence is it!

We have probably one of the World's most important conferences ever coming up, so its totally right that the main players are putting the effort in to get this right.

Yes, its not a good look. But sometimes a little pain is worth much more in the long run. The point was that this has been going on for months by both Alok Sharma and John Kerry (and Timmermans the EU climate man) but no one wanted to point it out then.

Your point on the politicians hypocrisy is a good one and reflects the disgusting behaviour of our global political class.

It does not build any defence for the UK’s climate Guru who’s behaviour is a disgraceful insult to genuine efforts to reduce carbon.

In the age of Teams, Zoom etc he blatantly did not need to travel. Never mind the global pandemic implications.
