English heritage are going to review all their blue plaques including for Enid Blyton due to links with our colonial past.

Ginger beer and buns, Noddy and Big Ears, condemned by the wokes.

I remember people talking about the racism in Blyton books about twenty years ago.

This is just the same old culture war stuff, conservatives desperately trying to paint themselves as victims when they've been running the country for a decade.

Most banned children’s author:

Wikipedia:

“Many of her books were critically assessed by teachers and librarians, deemed unfit for children to read, and removed from syllabuses and public libraries”

Also for example:

“A primary school has banned Enid Blyton books so that it qualified for a race equality award.

The much-loved children’s classics were cleared from shelves because they contain ‘inappropriate racial stereotypes’.

Action was taken so Huncoat Primary School near Accrington, Lancashire, would gain a Race Equality Mark from the local authority prior to opening a new library, officials said.“

According to British academic Nicholas Tucker, the works of Enid Blyton have been "banned from more public libraries over the years than is the case with any other adult or children's author"

Clear enough for you?

I think that is known as the classic "not me guv" reply.

That is how the cancel culture works.

Everything is cancelled but no-one cancels it.

Someone may suggest it (usually on twitter) and the followers (AKA useful idiots) will quietly get on with it.

No announcement, no banners flying, just books quietly removed.

"Cancelled" No not me guv.

Can you define ‘banned’ ? They were probably removed because they are shit and are no longer relevant or popular with young readers , there is a limit to the number of books they can stock . Are you sure that ginger beer and buns have been condemned?

I think it's even more interesting that it's implied this whole dreadful banning is a result of modern evil wokeness. But many people have been aware Blyton's work had problems for many years.

From wiki:

"Blyton's work became increasingly controversial among literary critics, teachers and parents from the 1950s onwards, because of the alleged unchallenging nature of her writing and the themes of her books, particularly the Noddy series. Some libraries and schools banned her works, which the BBC had refused to broadcast from the 1930s until the 1950s, because they were perceived to lack literary merit. Her books have been criticised as being elitist, sexist, racist, xenophobic and at odds with the more progressive environment emerging in post-Second World War Britain, but they have continued to be best-sellers since her death in 1968. "

So the criticism of Blyton is decades old. And despite all that criticism, you can still get her books from shops and libraries. Maybe this is just the slowest and most gradual outright ban of an author we've ever seen,

Let's be fair here.

Her books aren't exactly representative of today's culture so really shouldn't be in schools anyway.

We're talking about a children's author here, not a literary masterpiece

You initially said it wasn't possible. Now you say that there's not enough, that's just a funding issue surely?

Which government is it that has caused local councils to have to strip back all of their services (libraries included)?

But, on checking there did not seem to be a wait time on the first few I looked at. So probably enough then?

Which is more to the point, most kids today would not want to read these books.

In the whole of Essex? Say 100 books for a million people? Ridiculous.

How many do you suggest they should have in stock?

To fight the war against woke, every household needs to have 2 flags and 5 Blyton books. It's the only way to be safe.

Will this feature on woke watch tonight?

I hear a presenter is gonna be wearing a Union Jack Waistcoat tonight. Then he's gonna chain down a left woke remoaner and spank them with a copy of Noddy Goes Race Baiting until their buttocks are as red as his face.

I might tune in for that..."

In fairness, it's probably bollocks. Where would they even get a Blyton book since they've all been so thoroughly banned?

"Oddly enough, you can still get loads of Blyton books at my local library. Very strange since they've supposedly been so comprehensively banned.

I bet you can't. And I also bet you haven't specifically checked at your local library in the two hours since I made this thread.

Poor form to make stuff up.

I just looked on my Essex Library Services app. Should I care to reserve an Enid book, there were about 35 web pages of them in the catalog...

There's a clip on GB News of a lady rhapsodising about Blyton's books. I loved the bit where she mentioned Blyton's well known book the Magnificent Seven.

(I'm not making this up hahaha)

You initially said it wasn't possible. Now you say that there's not enough, that's just a funding issue surely?

Which government is it that has caused local councils to have to strip back all of their services (libraries included)?

But, on checking there did not seem to be a wait time on the first few I looked at. So probably enough then?

Which is more to the point, most kids today would not want to read these books."

Kids minds have been poisoned against the good old fashioned roistering boistering adventures.

Saying some bits of Essex have the books... Great. Many bits don't. Unless you can drive a few miles hunting them out.

You should read Blyton's Magnificent Seven. I hear it was one of the 1st cowboy books for kids.

No idea what's funny about enjoying books. Braying and sneering, very unappealing behaviour

Hey I love Blyton's cowboy revenge tale. It was groundbreaking at the time.

That is really as daft as saying they don't watch those great Errol Flynn films anymore...

It's a central service, it covers all Essex. It saves every library having to duplicate their stock of books. It's called efficiency. You only have to wait a day or so...

"English heritage are going to review all their blue plaques including for Enid Blyton due to links with our colonial past.

Ginger beer and buns, Noddy and Big Ears, condemned by the wokes. "

Good Riddance to the bigoted views of the past
