Are donations a good way of influencing Parties to do what their donors want. Or recipie for trouble in the long term?

They are a dangerous thing, in their present format, i.e. the rich donor cosies up to a minister and says I might put a few thousand in the parties' coffers IF...

Note I am not point at any one party here, I think it's a bad system, full stop.

If someone believes in the aims and aspirations of a party, then there should be a mechanism to allow them to donate anonymously.

But even this I don't think is correct. As some parties are able to raise much more money in this way, and then able to spend that money getting a further reach for their message.

Elections should not be won by the party that spends the most.

Maybe the running of a party should only come from membership subscriptions?
