"I think that DC is a strategic liar - he will lie when it is to his benefit, or tell the truth when it is to his benefit. For him truth is something that is flexible, he sees no special value in honesty, but I suspect all things being equal, he would be capable of being truthful. On the other hand I see BJ as being a compulsive liar, the sort of person that will lie even if it ends up putting them at a disadvantage. " Alex cant help himself

"Silly question.. is there an actual point to this thread..apart from asking if someone none of us know very little about a liar?" There is a total point to it. If he can lie to suit - then just because he says something doesn't make it the truth, does it? So the point would be, come Wednesday I hope that that fact is reflected in that understanding.

"It's not really a very useful question. There are very few people who lie 100% of the time, or indeed who tell the truth 100% of the time. Cummings might tell the truth about what this government did, or he might lie. We can only really judge based on the evidence, not by deciding whether or not he is "a liar". " Exactly

"It's a simple question? Go . . . " His Barnard Castle explanation in the back garden of Downing Street was an illustration of how a pathological liar can lie so effectively that he absolutely believed that his lies were true. Interestingly, back then Johnson and the whole cabinet supported Cummings. Now they claim that he is “mistaken” in his recollections about Herd Immunity, Johnson’s lack of responsibility and the ineptitude of the Cabinet. If he (Cummings) has receipts and he presents those receipts tomorrow there will have to be some furious back-peddling by those who are currently accusing him of being “mistaken.” Personally speaking and for three reasons - I hope that he has kept the receipts and they are aired. 1) The families of those who died deserve to hear about the Governments incompetence. 2) Johnson needs exposing for what he is, as often as possible. 3) The theatre that will result from the publication of the receipts.

"This really is quite damning stuff isn’t it!! He is basically articulating the failures from within that the critics on the outside have been surmising for the last 18 months. Johnson is out of his depth - check Hancock is lying Charlatan - check Johnson is chaotic and lacks focus - check The Govts Covid response was shambolic - check Ten of thousands died unnecessarily - check I mean this is what critics on the outside have been saying all along - and here we have the same allegations being confirmed - from the inside. Is he (Cummings) still a liar? Probably - but what exactly is his motive for lying about these things? " They have basically let 1000s of people die.Can you get any more damming than that? "The most disappointing thing about all of this is to see the respected and highly regarded contributors to the political forum positively salivating at the comments made today by a man who a year ago was being hung drawn and quartered for being nothing more than a bare-faced lier. The spirit of the Westminster political bubble is very much alive here in Fabland " No one is saying that he isn't an untrustworthy liar, but what is his motivation to lie now? All he has done is validate the speculation, rumour and innuendo that has been floating around for the last 15 months and confirmed it to be true. How more honest could he be on this occasion by saying that the political system in the UK should have been more robust than to let anyone like him (Ciummings) get anywhere near Downing Street. He acknowledged his failures, he apologised and he (seemingly) laid out the truth that had been speculated for more than a year.

For motive I am guessing revenge. He is not the type to get on the wrong side of. Could we be seeing heads roll? In order to be in this cabinet you had to have been sacked or left it before...what goes around..." That's very true I've never known a UK government that rewards and champions failure as this one does.

"The most disappointing thing about all of this is to see the respected and highly regarded contributors to the political forum positively salivating at the comments made today by a man who a year ago was being hung drawn and quartered for being nothing more than a bare-faced lier. The spirit of the Westminster political bubble is very much alive here in Fabland Because it suits many people's agendas. He's either a liar or he's not. If he is and I suspect he is, then the feeding _renzy on here is a wonder to behold! I think that you will find the whole of the country is somewhat perplexed by all this. Bottom line is that Johnson invited Cummings into the heart of Government. This will reverberate and I am sure that there will be consequences. It is all just too much now."

"There is obviously a lot of bitterness there. As interesting as dishing the dirt is... And as much as it backs up many of the things that people have been saying. You can't have advisors washing this kind of dirty laundry in public. I don't think anyone is surprised he got his sharp knives out. Whether it's for the good of the country or not is debatable. " What was he supposed to do… lie to a parliamentary committee and found in contempt…. Actually knowing that Johnson and cummings both spoke to Laura kuensburg at the bbc and were briefing her off the record as a Downing Street source I went back and listened to a 2 part podcast she did commemorating 1yr of covid and the progress and pitfalls… It’s puts that in such a different light

" Brexit has gone really well, after all, and that is all anyone wanted. Really? " Sorry - I should have made clearer that I was being ironic. To be clear, the _only_ thing that I think this government has done to an acceptable level is the vaccine roll-out. Even there I question whether we needed to be as greedy as we have been and have a fear that the rest of world being deprived of the vaccines we have snaffled may lead to us being hit by a resistant variant at some point in the future. I think Brexit, both in conception, half arsed planning and execution has been and continues to be a disaster. I am convinced it will end the union, and perhaps lead for further loss of life in the island of Ireland. I am still hopeful that some very senior members of government will end up in prison on manslaughter charges for the tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths, but I realise the burden of proof on that is pretty high.

"The only red faces on here are the ones who seemed to be suffering from some sort of amnesia as they were all defending him last year. Worrying " It is worrying. I don't remember many, if any defending him. What I do remember is a lot of people saying he was a lying scumbag, who couldn't be trusted.

"It looks like we can safely ignore what Dominic Cummings has to say . I am surprised that anyone could even be bothered listening to him . See quote below . "But in the short term, “ministers believe that Cummings’s evidence will hold little sway with the public”, says Steven Swinford in The Times. A YouGov poll for the newspaper found that only 14% of people trusted Cummings to tell the truth about how the government handled the coronavirus outbreak, compared with 38% for Johnson. "i dont know about others. but who do you really trust? and why would you?" Trouble is.. Even if St Peter paul and David Attenborough were in charge.... The media would twist things to foment distrust. They thrive on it

"So far it is just his word against others. What he needs to do is provide some firm evidence to back up his version of events. I think he may be planning to do that at some point, most likely when it causes most damage " I'm certain that DC will produce the evidence. Whatever else he may be (sociopathic perhaps?), he is clearly not stupid, he was very likely the most intelligent person in Downing Street at the time. He will have copies of everything he needed to protect himself, and the only thing which might deter him from releasing some items would be the need to avoid incriminating himself. However his framing himself as the victim, the one attempting to preserve lives but being continually overruled by the stupidity and cruelty of the cabinet, perfectly positions him to show the lot. The aphorism "revenge is a dish best served cold" might be very applicable to his actions. Make verbal statements. Allow members of the government to deny things. Then produce physical evidence to crucify them. Covid may just be the start, I'm would imagine that he has the dirt on every single one of them back to the first day that he commenced working for Mr Johnson.

" It's quite interesting the bodies piled high comment has not recieved much coverage, seeing as the buffoon stood up in parliament and said he didnt say it. Its also quite funny the Tories turning on Cummings now for lying, when they are run by a man who wouldnt know the truth if it got into bed with him.
