Isnt there supposed to be some sort of rules about lying to parliament now or have sky just decided that no one cares?

The fact that senior leaders of the gmnt have to be consistently fact checked is really something.

Most leaders, including opposition parties, public figures are fact-checked these days. Makes for better circulation to fact-check the minutiae of 'everything'.

They facts checked masks - Vaccines - Covid infection in humans - risk of dying from covid - 5G - Sir David Attenborough - Vaccines ccasued deaths - fake missing child reports - Teeth whitening - French car share and battery failures.

Yea. They will have two on the same site, but I'm kind of guessing as with most Hospital re-builds go that it will become a mix of New Main Hospital and whatever they can still use from the old one.

Haven't seen a Hospital anywhere that didn't have a New one built that didn't keep many parts of the old one.

Stephen Dunn, WSFT’s chief executive, said: “One of the benefits about this proposal is the possibility of keeping some of the current site based at Hardwick Lane including many of the most recent additions such as the education centre and eye care centre, allowing us to make the best use of public funds.

“The trust is also incredibly fortunate to have partner organisations on our site such as St Nicholas Hospice and mental health provider Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust.

Even by Lionels usual standards this really is being thick.

A few years back our local hospital was replaced by a brand spanking New hospital on an adjacent site.

The old one was actually flattened and flats built on it which I believe is part used as staff accommodation.

Now if someone was to say to me the new hospital is actually an old hospital because there was one already there, I would recommend them to see one of the doctors because they had a screw loose.!

Direct from the NHS website: WSH.

"New building for West Suffolk Hospital confirmed

West Suffolk Hospital has been confirmed as one of 40 hospitals to benefit from a £3.7bn building programme.

The Government had previously said it would provide seed funding to help us develop proposals for a new health and care campus in Bury St Edmunds.

The new announcement, made by the Prime Minister on Friday, means we can now move on to the next stage of planning to replace our current 1970s building.

So to conclude - NEW.

"Even by Lionels usual standards this really is being thick.

A few years back our local hospital was replaced by a brand spanking New hospital on an adjacent site.

The old one was actually flattened and flats built on it which I believe is part used as staff accommodation.

Now if someone was to say to me the new hospital is actually an old hospital because there was one already there, I would recommend them to see one of the doctors because they had a screw loose.!"

Hmmm..no one in.the entire thread has said anything about it being an old hospital..so you are into something there.

It's an amazing idea - only been done a billion times already however - to build a new hospital on a site next to and then calling it NEW? Clever thinking that.

This is actually bizarre

If a city has one Asda, and they decide to update the shop, maybe build a bigger building

That is not a new asda and the city has the Same number of asdas it hasld before.

Quite why this is such a difficult concept to grasp is astonishing.

"Purchase of Hardwick Manor and grounds

West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to confirm that it has completed the purchase of Hardwick Manor.

The home and its surrounding grounds are among four sites currently being considered as potential future locations for a ************new West Suffolk Hospital.****************

The existing hospital buildings on Hardwick Lane were built in 1974 and have already long exceeded their intended 30-year life span.

We have invested heavily in their upkeep over recent years, but the time will soon come when they are no longer fit for purpose.

Accordingly, the trust was recently confirmed as one of 40 across the country to receive funding for new build projects from the Government’s Health Infrastructure Programme.

Trust chief executive Dr Stephen Dunn said: "It is well known that our hospital was among thousands of buildings constructed in the 1970s using reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete planks.

"As a result, we have had to carry out an extensive programme of inspections and running repairs at our current site to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

"We have been open and transparent about the structural challenges our current site poses, and our desire to move to a new, purpose-built location as soon as possible".

You realise no one Is disputing a new building is being built?

For the last time..a hospital is being built to replace the old one,the area will have exactly the same number of hospitals as it had before.

Therefore the argument that 40(ha)new hospitals are built Is false.

Hence the fact check.

Oh Dear. But nobody says that he was building 41 hospitals did they? He said building 40 new hospitals. There really isn't space or need around the country for 40 new hospitals on top of those we already have.

But Old Hospitals rebuilt are NEW hospitals. With far more capacity and totally modernised for today's public needs in those areas.

As has been pointed out above - they are still going to use parts of the old one. And everyone in the NHS locally and NHS Nationally and Government concerned (except you) says it's NEW.

Full fact

The government says that seed funding will cover 34 hospitals, and has also published a list of which hospitals are included. By our count, there are 38 hospitals listed (if you count all 12 community hospitals in Dorset which are listed as “potentially” getting funding). Presumably, the 34 extra hospitals needed to reach the total figure of 40 are to be found within this list of 38, and we’ve asked the Department of Health and Social Care for more information on this.

From Full-Fact. In addition, go get the list from asset publishing.

What was claimed:

The government is only reconfiguring six new hospitals rather than building 40.

Our verdict:

In its latest announcement the government has committed the money to upgrade six hospitals by 2025. Up to 38 other hospitals have received money to plan for building work between 2025 and 2030, but not to actually begin any work.

This is great, they are upgrading 6, then ‘up to ‘ another 38 which they have given money too (no idea how much) but work won’t start but it might start between 2025 -2030. Sounds like a detailed well thought out plan

Well that would eventually make 44.

And what is wrong with the 2025 -2030 dates? It will take about 3 years just to get the sites and plans together from the Trusts, then there is the build itself. And the government have already given the money for the planning.

Expecting them to appear tomorrow?

1 NEW Asda and the old one.

If someone asked me which Asda I'm going to in Romford I would answer either the NEW one or the old one.

Here's a good point, the NEW hospital in Romford was built under Labours NHS (Private Finance) Act 1997 and opened in 2006.

Because of the repayments they have to make the hospital has been up to £50M in debt.

"If the Government knock down 40 old hospitals and build 40 new Hospitals - How many new hospitals do you have?"

How about this one:

You have x hospitals, and a politician says "We are providing funding for 40 new hospitals".

a) How many hospitals is the politician seeking to convince the electorate there will be once the funding has been spent?

i) x

ii) x + y where y 0 and y = 40

iii) x + 40

b) How many does the politician think there will be at the same point in the future?

i) x

ii) x + y where y 0 and y = 40

iii) x + 40

iv) Hasn't even given it a thought, it's just a game

c) Does your answer change if you substitute "a politician" with "Boris Johnson"? "Caroline Lucas"?

d) (For Boris fanbois only) Why do you think this is acceptable?

I have to be sceptical now when reading about these ‘new’ job announcements, are they additional or are they just replacing old jobs, new is new, apparently you seem to be getting it now well done you.

Indeed

New police

New nurses

New housing

New schools

New teachers

None of them are additional, they are just replacing the old with the new. Got it now Well done you yet again. that should stop hours of mindless debate in the future on other threads you just need to explain it to your mate now and maybe we can get back to some sensible debate."

Sensible debate?

"This is absolutely nuts

If they build 40 NEW hospitals then they build 40 NEW hospitals.

As far as I'm aware they haven't said they are building 40 ADDITIONAL hospitals.

For those that struggle with English, NEW doesn't always mean ADDITIONAL.

That is true , however

New jobs

New housing

New nurses

New Police

New Schools

Does that mean additional or just replacing the old?

I'm done...its absolutely insane

New is new, apparently , who knew

I just cant be arsed

Its bizarre.

Even for here.

It has certainly made me laugh,
