As things stand most countries in the EU have higher unemployment rates than those in the UK " One is one Two is a couple Three is a few 10 is more than a few I don't actually see your point though - plenty of countries have higher unemployment than the UK and 10 appear to have the same figures or lower. Whoopee So, when the UK was a member of the EU then they were in the average mix as well and now the UK is out they are not. So what? How do UK pensions compare to countries in the EU - I have not looked but am pretty sure that they are worse if not one of the worst. Does this show that the UK is the poorest for looking after the older generation? I don't think so but by your logic it would appear so. Has the UK taken more immigrants than other countries in the EU - I don't think so. What does that prove? Lots of things but mainly that the UK has taken less immigrants than other EU countries. Are the immigrants which the countries have taken included in those who are unemployed? Again, I don't know but probably a fair question. Easy to pull figures out from the internet and make a statement around it. 10 countries have either the same or a lower figure for unemployment than the UK. That is more than a few. The UK has relatively low unemployment figures which is good but little point in comparing against the EU as the comparison is meaningless. A better comparison would be against France and Germany both of whom have a similar population base and similar economies. Germany has lower unemployment and France, higher. Does that make the UK more caring than France and less than Germany? I don't think so when you look at the benifits and rights the French actually have against the benifits that the unemployed have in the UK. Workers in both France and Germany retire earlier than in the UK, work less hours per week and have greater pensions. In Scandinavia the rights of workers are even better with better child care, less hours per week and better pensions. In lots of respects, the UK treats workers worse than a lot of European countries. But unemployment is at 4.9%.

When you use the same method our totals are virtually the same.
