"Its not illegal to protest. The issue is protesting in the right way. Glueing oneself to a tube train, or sitting down on a busy main road is too much of a disruptive protest. " Exactly this.

" These actions are already illegal. The issues are around giving more power to the state and removing the legal right to protest peacefully.

"Do we need that right? Or is it wasted? Does protesting make a difference? Is the government right to make it a criminal offence to protest? Are we all happy that people should not protest about any issue at all. This includes EDL marches." Yes we do need the right, no it isn't wasted. Yes it can make a difference. No they are absolutely not right in giving the police powers to decide what level of protest is "annoying" enough to be illegal, as even an ex-Chief Constable has suggested. It is our democratic right to protest.

Causing obstruction, damage to property and violence are often the problems. Sadly the message of the protest gets lost when these things happen making them counter productive

"I don't know the answers here but do believe people should have the legal right to peacefully protest. We've seen it again yesterday, the was M32 closed and officers injured in London. These acts are not helpful in the slightest and do nothing more than tell the government they are doing the right thing by bringing in tougher measures."
