After having the Union Jack behind every M.P. It now must be flown from every Government Building. What's next to bring the country together? Children singing allegiance to Bojo every morning or wearing Union Jack shorts abroad to help heal relations after brexit?

Nope, but then I'm not embarrassed by what it stands for. It is usually flown at the same height as the Regions flag and the European flag. Bojo has insisted the UK fly their rag higher than all others, obviously as it's 'world beating'.

Its an excellent question. Patriotism is a tool used, much like religion, to control the population.

As soon as you can accuse someone of being anti-patriotic for speaking out against the government, you have a tool of control. And its a very effective one.

We have lots of it going on here too BTW.

Some would argue, that those who challenge the narrative and question their government, instead of insisting their country is perfect, actually love their country more.so do you think you love your country more than some people on here then ?"

I have no clue how much anyone on here loves their country.

"The flag of Hawaii must piss some Americans off!

Lol probably. Time to cancel culture it

The Americans don’t love their flag as much as the North Koreans .

Because they are forced to love it. That is a major difference.

Nah, they are just more patriotic than Americans, they adore their leaders

Once again forced to love their leaders. Still a major difference. No one forcing anyone to fly your flags it's a individual choice.

Independence day great day flags everywhere. Symbolism against tyranny. Fireworks flags parades bbqs bands. Good time. North korea hold flag wave for media or die.

North Korea put you to shame, they really know how to show their flag love, in comparison , Americans are amateurs .

True. But we fly ours without complaints and the threat of government control. Individuality not a hive mentality.

If you Google "United States Flag Code" there are a load of laws around it.

To the rest of the world, people in the US, North Korea and these type places are all about "hive mentality" when it comes to patriotism and flag waving.

Then why does everyone celebrate 4th of July. Every house flags everywhere. Not just political people. Nothing wrong with history and a sense of pride. You can do it all year or just 1 day. All races all genders all religions. We just take pride UK chooses not to. Not that hard to figure out. Fly it or don't individual choice.that’s because your not ashamed to love your country and celebrate your history it’s a great thing

Same as alot of men with sports teams. Fealty no different . Colors pride a sense of belonging with what your individual like and dislikes are. Don't like your country your choice. Like your country your choice. Love your country your choice. Otherwise sporting events and countries cannot identify who is who and what they stand for.

Personally my fealty is to the flag is for what it represents. Watching flag draped coffins of friends being loaded on to planes. Knowing they made the ultimate sacrafice for our values. My personal fealty. Interperate you own.

"After having the Union Jack behind every M.P. It now must be flown from every Government Building. What's next to bring the country together? Children singing allegiance to Bojo every morning or wearing Union Jack shorts abroad to help heal relations after brexit? I see you live in Spain, ever tried looking at the municipal buildings and Guardia civil stations ? they fly the Spanish flag every day do you moan about them too?

Nope, but then I'm not embarrassed by what it stands for. It is usually flown at the same height as the Regions flag and the European flag. Bojo has insisted the UK fly their rag higher than all others, obviously as it's 'world beating'. "

Why are you embarrassed by the union jack what is your interpretation of what it stands for? to me its a national flag just like any other.

The swastika used to be a symbol for well being, and is a few 1000 years old. However since it was hijacked by Adolf, I would feel uncomfortable waving it about. To a lesser extent I feel the Union Jack has been hijacked by the Tories and wouldn't want to be waving that about either. It's not the 400+ years history it's the political jingoism that it is currently being used for I hate.

By that token..the hammer and sickle also won the war.

You have a very simplistic view of history.

When the Spanish civil war was being fought many volunteers from england fought against the fascists, despite this country sitting back and watching.. what flag did they represent?

I'm not against these things. I am discussing how they're used as a tool by governments to control their populations. To keep them compliant.

Why would you think I want to replace them with a different form of control? I'm in favour of people questioning authority.

To fight for king (or queen) and country, not to fight for the Union Jack . If people want to fly flags, wear Union Jack underpants etc etc that is their choice, it doesn’t make them more or less patriotic than people who don’t

Agreed, I believe a lot of Germans loved their country & its flag during National Socialism - that went well...

And yet the union jack defended against that tyranny.

Last time I looked,a flag didnt win the war.

No the troops representing that flag and were sent home under it did. But I know you can not comprehend that. Too political for you. I have more respect for your flag then you do.

By that token..the hammer and sickle also won the war.

You have a very simplistic view of history.

When the Spanish civil war was being fought many volunteers from england fought against the fascists, despite this country sitting back and watching.. what flag did they represent?"

well if you must know the nationalist flag was the same colours as it is now red yellow red the republican flag was red yellow purple so i guess the foriegn fighters rallied to that one. yes i would say the hammer and sickle did help defeat the germans in ww2 its a flag like any other.

But hey maybe I am wrong but out respect for families that gave thier sons and daughters for the same values you scream about from your soapbox that paid a sacrafice you are unwilling to do. Bojo has insisted the UK fly their rag higher than all others, obviously as it's 'world beating'.

When the Spanish civil war was being fought many volunteers from england fought against the fascists, despite this country sitting back and watching.. what flag did they represent?

And what flag did the fly tigers represent? The did not come home dead under a chinese flag. I understand you have 0 sense of duty except your own interpretation. But hey maybe I am wrong but out respect for families that gave thier sons and daughters for the same values you scream about from your soapbox that paid a sacrafice you are unwilling to do. I'll fly my flags high and with respect. "

Yes, I'll second that.

Very well said.

It is worth being clear of the difference being proud of the people who defend our culture and the idiots who run the country! Boris does not defend our culture, he breaks it I think we are discussing flags.

Flying a flag does not mean you are proud or not, the Govt are ‘virtue signalling’, which I believe is generally regarded as ‘a bit woke’ "

So government vehicles flying their perspective flags in a warzone is technically "virtue" signalling ? Not identity ?

Unlike the US we generally don’t go overboard on flags everywhere. As far as I know the Health Minister does not sit in a warzone, so your passion is not necessary in this instance.

I find it kind of ironic that those people who get most agitated at anyone not wrapping themselves up in a union jack or whatever, are those who shout most loudly about the lack of freedom and democracy in other countries

I said it's my interpretation. Never said it was unpatriotic for anyone to think otherwise. But our both countries fight for same values. Now a political warzone because of a flag on top of a health ministry. Really. Just fly a white flag it be more appropriate because it's a sign of surrender. Give up patriotic duty to country. No shame in surrender if it benefits the overall well being.

But other people are allowed to have different opinions without being accused of being unpatriotic, or being accused of only feeling shame.

I don't know what you mean.

I have no opinion of people or office buildings flying flags. Crack on.

But you can see from this thread, anyone who doesn't wave flags and follow their country blindly, gets slated."

And I get slated for owning guns everytime I explain. Not following government blindly. I guess there is a difference between civilian and military personnel. We take it extremely personal about what the flag represents.

I understand it just struck a nerve and I went ballistic. Personal issue I should not have shared since I don't live there.

When the Spanish civil war was being fought many volunteers from england fought against the fascists, despite this country sitting back and watching.. what flag did they represent?

And what flag did the fly tigers represent? The did not come home dead under a chinese flag. I understand you have 0 sense of duty except your own interpretation. But hey maybe I am wrong but out respect for families that gave thier sons and daughters for the same values you scream about from your soapbox that paid a sacrafice you are unwilling to do. I'll fly my flags high and with respect.

It is worth being clear of the difference being proud of the people who defend our culture and the idiots who run the country! Boris does not defend our culture, he breaks it I think we are discussing flags.

Flying a flag does not mean you are proud or not, the Govt are ‘virtue signalling’, which I believe is generally regarded as ‘a bit woke’

So government vehicles flying their perspective flags in a warzone is technically "virtue" signalling ? Not identity ?

Unlike the US we generally don’t go overboard on flags everywhere. As far as I know the Health Minister does not sit in a warzone, so your passion is not necessary in this instance.

It is because I watched served with UK troops. Same self pride in their country are they wrong ? They volunteer to possibly die. They get my full respect they are not forced into conscription they do it for honor pride and guess what country. Your flag means as much to them as ours means to me."

Indeed it does & not one of them will respect a Govt that pretends to love the flag & country whilst reducing the size of the armed forces (which was not in their manifesto to do). This is nothing about anyone on Fab being patriotic or not, it is about sham nationalism from virtue signalling politicians who couldn’t care less if people died for their country - just ask the famillies of the 125,000 Covid dead. Boris did nothing to help them.

I think pretty much every soldier is patriotic to the flag, but I’m also pretty sure most if not all think politicians are complete tossers. Losing 15% of your work colleagues to job reduction isn’t going to help change that view.

The Govt is just indulging in faux nationalism. 1 year ago, they wanted the Cheltenham Gold Cup & herd immunity which killed a lot of people - not exactly caring about people then, were they?

Nobody did anything to help with the loss of my loved ones other than the nurses and doctors at the time, and I have no doubt its the same for everyone else that lost a loved one, and you don't help by keep banging on about the number of dead either, do you think we need continually reminding of our loss. How about you have some respect for all these families and use another stick as your weapon of choice.

When the Spanish civil war was being fought many volunteers from england fought against the fascists, despite this country sitting back and watching.. what flag did they represent?

Your flag means as much to them as ours means to me.

Nobody did anything to help with the loss of my loved ones other than the nurses and doctors at the time, and I have no doubt its the same for everyone else that lost a loved one, and you don't help by keep banging on about the number of dead either, do you think we need continually reminding of our loss. How about you have some respect for all these families and use another stick as your weapon of choice."

I’m sorry for your loss and mine also.

I also want to hold those accountable for these deaths. Flag waving faux nationalism is a distraction from these real issues

I think pretty much every soldier is patriotic to the flag, but I’m also pretty sure most if not all think politicians are complete tossers. Losing 15% of your work colleagues to job reduction isn’t going to help change that view.

As you well know in the US, Govt make enormous mistakes and sometimes they get lucky when Pharma, Universities and Health Practitioners do the right thing. PPE being available at the start would have helped, but that was cocked up.

This is nothing about anyone on Fab being patriotic or not, it is about sham nationalism from virtue signalling politicians who couldn’t care less if people died for their country - just ask the famillies of the 125,000 Covid dead. Boris did nothing to help them.over the top me thinks lol

The flag waving I assume you mean no the part about politians couldn’t care less of people die

I think pretty much every soldier is patriotic to the flag, but I’m also pretty sure most if not all think politicians are complete tossers. Losing 15% of your work colleagues to job reduction isn’t going to help change that view.

The Govt is just indulging in faux nationalism. 1 year ago, they wanted the Cheltenham Gold Cup & herd immunity which killed a lot of people - not exactly caring about people then, were they? most people think they are tossers but to think they don’t care about people’s lives is a bit silly

What evidence do you have that shows they care about ordinary peoples lives? ofcorse they fucking care maybe there shit at there jobs but everyone cares about people dying

It is really quite sweet that you think they care. "

it is really disturbing that you think that they don’t care about people dying lol

When the Spanish civil war was being fought many volunteers from england fought against the fascists, despite this country sitting back and watching.. what flag did they represent?

A vaccine ? Distribution of it development of it international effort for a solution to a tragedy.

As you well know in the US, Govt make enormous mistakes and sometimes they get lucky when Pharma, Universities and Health Practitioners do the right thing. PPE being available at the start would have helped, but that was cocked up."

Operation Warp speed was a collaboration between the we DOD and private sector. If government did not care DOD wouldn't have been involved. Department of defense.

As I have pointed out in many post the Govt did a great job of ordering the Vaccines ahead of others - fair play.

They did a bad job in the following:

Not looking at or learning from Cygnus

Not having in stock PPE

Not having in stock Ventilators

Not stopping Air Travel

Not stopping Cheltenham

Letting their mates who have never produced PPE have a go & pocket £100m’s

Not having a Plan, sorry, having many Plans but not adhering to any one of them

Not attending Cobra meetings

Employing Cummings

Having a father who breaks the rules

Having one set of rules for us & another for those downstairs

Spending £37bn on Test & Who knows where they are (used to be Trace, but ASA said their was no evidence of this)

...as naseum.

If they actually cared, instead of a cheap clap, they’d move heaven & earth to pay the NHS properly - I mean 2 planes, one house redesign and a Russian makeover for the media room were achieved...

Stockport

Given that this is being dictated by BloJob, I assume that one of his mates has just got hold of a lorry load of Union flags and will now be the sole licenced flag provider for every government building in the country. The price will be set at what? One grand? Ten grand? Hundred grand a throw?

Personally I feel shamed by the way that every government from Blair onwards has used and abused patriotism for their own self aggrandisement, and specifically disgusted by the fact that the Union flag has become a symbol of intolerance, racism, cronyism, bad governance and brexit. The flag is now nothing to be proud of.

Samuel Johnson, 1775: "Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel."

Boris Johnson, 2021: "Fuck the nurses, spend the money on my own personal TV studio, I've got a Russian mate that can install an effing huge Union Jack for only a couple of million..."

here

I know we all like a good poll to settle these things

(YouGov) Union Jack flag now being flown over government buildings every day

ALL BRITONS:

Approve 58% / Disapprove 19%

CONSERVTIVE VOTERS:

Approve 88% / Disapprove 4%

LABOUR VOTERS:

Approve 38% / Disapprove 36%

(interesting to note, like so many other things these days, Labour can't quite decide which side of the fence to be on )
