European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has threatened to block vaccine exports to the UK and other countries with markedly higher rollouts of coronavirus jabs.

I guess thats any other country then considering the slow rollout.

It's just the tiny unelected Commission and some failing foreign PMs who are causing all the heartbreak and devastation in Europe.

A few weeks back when the EU vaccine debarcle exploded that it could not get worse and they would get back on track (after blamming others first). Seems that was very over optomistic

It's something they haven't fully thought through.

The damage to business confidence and potential relocation outside the EU for international traders is a likely outcome if they choose to stop exporting the vaccine.

Simple business logic. If the EU or any other country were to prevent business's from trading they would possibly have to relocate if they are to maintain thier customer base and profit margins.

Well ya' gotta' blame someone I guess.

My Husbands Niece has been on Zoom quite a lot this last few days - she's 16 - and she says that most of her friends listened to Merkel when she refused the Astra Jab. Luckily she keeps on top of World News and does have the same opinion.

Leaders have to really be straight about the real reasons they do things and keep political slants out of it.

They have been desperately trying to slow down the UK by any means including trying to rubbish the AZ vaccine. If they put UK people off the AZ vaccine they will be happy. The AZ vaccine is designed for the world not just rich countries. It's relatively cheap, easy to move and store. Their actions could affect people in the developing world with devastating results for us all.

Alternatively - the EU have ordered vaccines and are demanding delivery, and are prepared to take action to ensure delivery. Meanwhile, several sovereign member states have independently taken the decision not to use the AZ vaccine for varying reasons - some scientific, some political, all independent of the EU position.

It's almost as if those countries have control of what happens within their borders despite being part of a large trading bloc.

If our government wanted to shut her up they could counter with the export figures for vaccines produced here. Unfortunately it looks as though those numbers are very low/non existant. But we have to maintain the "EU bad" campaign narrative.

You may start to hear EU Article 122 being quoted soon.

This allows EU Members to take direct action against the manufacturing plants, and its possible implementation is to be discussed between leaders next week.

It seems UVL has been put straight by Pfizer, it turns out a vital ingredient of their vaccine comes from Snaith chemical plant in N Yorkshire and if the eu did block vaccines coming to the uk the uk could also do the same bringing the factory in Germany to a standstill within 2 weeks.is there no end to this woman's incompetence ?
