They are so incompetent, they use ‘Eire” on the name badges for the MEPs for the Republic of Ireland in Parliament.

Bahahahah what a bunch of idiots

(An Irish fabber said that Eire is not the Republic yesterday so I’m going with his expertise)

‘Éire’ is Irish for ‘Ireland’ so it’s how you would describe the island of Ireland in Irish. Éire / Ireland is also the constitutional name for the 26-county state on the island that is also known as the Republic of Ireland.

here

So I get that Eire means 'Ireland' in Irish Gaelic , and Eire is also used to describe the Republic of Ireland.

So did Brussels get it wrong when they used Eire on the badges? What with wondering if Fabs chairs have been delivered yet and now this confusing use of Eire (which I always understood to specifically describe the Republic of Ireland) - my beauty sleep has suffered immensely, and I certainly need as much of it as possible

Please advise the definitive answer asap thanks

Happy St Patricks Day as well

Blimey, I've been gone for 24hrs, and you've flipped from ridiculing Irish people to wishing them a happy st Patrick's Day.

What a difference a day makes.

it's the language of the nation being referred to, the whole nonsense of "the wrong name" is based on a user of the forums inability to comprehend

he'll be wanting all the UN countries labelled in English next

Never happened. The British were however called ignorant, which was disappointing.

I mean, I could go and copy and paste the things you said.

And the person who said that British people were ignorant, apologised for that comment.
