So because we are now out of the EU...

" Chancellor Rishi Sunak will announce the contactless limit for credit and debit cards will be increased from £45 in the Budget to £100, to allow retailers to cash in on the increase in contactless payments since the start of the pandemic.

And the value of transactions which can be made in a row without a Pin will be increased to £300, up from £130 currently, £100 more than what had been proposed by regulators.

It suggests the Chancellor is aiming for a consumer spending-led recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, but has raised concerns about fraud.

"

This topic sits firmly within the bracket of "because of Brexit" that Rishi Sunak has decided to more than double the limit for contactless transactions.

I'm not really sure if I can see a tangible benefit to this if you are comparing \ offsetting against the negative of losing your card and someone being able to spend more of your money and quicker too.

So is it a Brexit bonus for you? or is it just a case of "coz we can" now?

It’s a lot of money that could disappear very quickly. I am going to invest in a wallet shield.

I think the current amount was fine.

My PIN has never put me off spending before. So this gimmick is not going to be the thing I’m going to factor in when I want to spend.

America had a huge problem with electronic theft and some years ago stopped contactless altogether before reinstating it, but reducing the limit to (as I recall) $25.

As long as the technology is secure - this is good and convenient news. Unfortunately, I don’t trust this Government to have done their risk analysis before pulling the trigger.

I didn't know that.

I heard on LBC that the EU limit was set at €50 and that's why we can now raise it to whatever we want.

It’s perfect for me, the more the better at this point ami can stop carrying my wallet and just use my phone, some of my cards on the phone are limitless, unless the shop has a limit itself. But now all will be this is a great step forwards !

The 100 euro contactless limit in Holland, is an emergency measure because of covid, but still requires a PIN entry.

They have removed the historical need for PIN entry for contactless payments under 25 euros.

Emma is right ( hard to admit that )

If you lose £100 out your pocket that’s it.

Lose your card and it’s £100 in every shop until you report your card stolen.

Credit card company may credit you but depends on circumstances .

Debit card you’re on your own.

Just have an rfid wallet or purse or card pouch?

I'm guessing more people have cash stolen than have their cards copied? Simply because you don't need specialist equipment to do it.

Get a card thats linked to your phone. Everytime I make a transaction, my phone instantaneously tells me where and for how much.

It also gives me the option of freezing the card there and then.

Between Chichester and Havant

Not sure it is Brexit related, more covid, I feel. Less need to physically touch something that others touch.

I do agree that the increase is to big, but I can see why it has been done, if it is covid related.

Yes I’ve got that but you’re in a street and don’t hear your update?

It’s all about being sensible.
