Today's win.

"

Brexit: as half its sales are wiped out, silk firm joins exodus to Europe.

Bennett Silks in Stockport, Greater Manchester since 1904 are now facing the prospect of their EU business being wiped out due to the complications of the Brexit deal,” says Bennett.

Having spent the last 25 years developing a successful sales operation throughout the EU, which until recently accounted for about 50% of our sales, we are now facing the prospect of our EU business being wiped out due to the complications of the Brexit deal,” says Bennett.

Having watched Marr this morning I see that we will only see any Brexit benefit in 10 years or so with access to the Asian markets.

Excellent win I thought.

He also mentioned that the trade issues (many people would argue that there are not any) are caused by the red tape introduced by our friends , the EU (how naughty to treat the UK like a 3rd country).

All good news though - just a reshuffle of jobs. Some will go, some will appear and in 10 years time we will be back to where we started.

I missed that on the side of the bus but we know what we voted for so it must have been there.

Great news - a Brexit win.

- Some kind of semantics based argument (IE highlighting "should" from "it should be the easies deal in history").

- Remainers have mental health issues.

- No one expected Brexit to be a success right away. Wait 3, 5, 10, 50 years and see what the story is.

Oh dear - sounds like the Brexitears don't like to hear anything that isn't in their limited vision of what should happen.

Let's rewrite history.

Business is booming.

The EU misses the UK.

The NHS is enjoying the extra £350m per week it now gets.

Ireland is really happy.

There - everything is rosy.

The only view that Brexitears like to have.

Let's never forget - we must not mix facts and truth with what Brexitears want to hear.

Especially on this forum...

Good night and good luck

My last Brexit bonus tracker thread brought a bizarre first response that I was moaning or something ridiculous because I'm only highlighting the benefits of Brexit that the majority voted for any I was so positive and optimistic by saying I thought it was a win or similar.

It's almost as if leavers don't want the benefits of Brexit highlighted on here to promote what they voted for.

Funny fickle bunch of crazy people them leavers

I don’t own anything made in China. And even the most neophytic student of Leninism know that communism is a process initially reliant on small scale capitalism.

The Communism ideology consists of a philosophical, social, political and economic movement whose ultimate goal is the establishment of a communist society, based around a socioeconomic order that is structured upon the ideas of common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money.

What most people think of as communist countries are in fact based on a form of Marxism-Leninism at their root. Though in practice they become just a form of state capitalism, or a planned administrative command economy.

If you look at what communism means not one country operates using that ideology as there is always a ruling elite at the very least.

I doubt that is true as you will find many components in most domestic items that are made in China...

Things may say made in the UK but in truth they are assembled in the UK with parts sourced globally even from China.

"Sounds a very questionable business importing silk from environmentally sensitive areas in China, I’m not in favour of supporting such an appalling communist regime.

So with that moral stance, I’m guessing that you have sent back to China your mobile phone, tv, computer, other electronic and electrical equipment in your house and stripped out all the made in China bits out of your car. ......

BTW China is an authoritarian regime not communist. There is no true communist country in the world.

Genuinely interested as to how you define “ true communism “ . ?

The Communism ideology consists of a philosophical, social, political and economic movement whose ultimate goal is the establishment of a communist society, based around a socioeconomic order that is structured upon the ideas of common ownership of the means of production and the absence of social classes, money.

What most people think of as communist countries are in fact based on a form of Marxism-Leninism at their root. Though in practice they become just a form of state capitalism, or a planned administrative command economy.

If you look at what communism means not one country operates using that ideology as there is always a ruling elite at the very least."

Yes I’ve read that first paragraph from Wikipedia many times and naturally that is the overture to what many believe communism to be . Of course we in the West have always been told or shown how bad communism is or can be , we’ve been taught to be scared of it , to view it as this one great evil against our freedoms ..

Communism can trace its roots back as far as Ancient Greece , and whilst Karl Marx is accredited with the documentation of the Communist Manifesto which later became the basis of Leninism and the beginning of the Russian revolution , the rest of course is history .. Interpretations of ideology’s will always exist . Democracy itself is now barely recognisable from no doubt where it began , This is known as “ progression ‘ . It would be naive to think then that the ideology cannot progress within communist society’s would it not ? .. Maoism is already seen as a turning for communism , the Chinese adapting a system that it would seem works for them . How far away from Marxism / Leninism ideology it travels will be a system merely evolving as most systems do .. Does that make it any less “ true “ ? ... Constitutions and even the Holy Bible have been rewritten many hundreds of times .. Are we now to believe these are any less true and our democracy is just a sham of its former self ?

Incidentally I am not a communist believer / follower .. the subject just interests me greatly

"I cycle on a vintage Raleigh bike or walk everywhere, and I made my own phone from American and Korean sourced components.

Don’t tell me.......

you cook on an original Victoria range oven, don’t have a microwave, replaced all your electrical sockets plugs and switches with 1920’s Bakelite versions.

Don’t use light bulbs but hand made candles sourced from a cooperative at the end of the road.

TV is made by John Logie Baird. Radio came direct from Mr Marconi.

That just leaves your computer and broadband router?

All systems evolve over time. Regimes branded as Communist are far removed from the egalitarian ideal of the communist doctrine. The words communist and communism have been used and misappropriated to instil fear of this ideology without any understanding of the supporting philosophy.

This does not make a supporter of this political system I just will challenge the misuse of communist when referencing countries whose political system is far removed from that ideology.

Wasn't anything to do with me. Happened 100s of years before I was born.

Besides. I'm not the one harking back to the days of the empire.

If it was up to me we'd be looking towards progress, towards the future instead of pining after the days of the empire.

I rather think you want it both ways, freedom to criticise when it suits your argument and freedom to ignore when it doesn't.

Come again? Just because I don't want to see a return to colonisation of half the world, and bringing back human trafficking on a gigantic scale. Doesn't mean I think we should regress back to the 1950s and doesn't mean I suddenly lose the understanding of the impacts of brexit.

Meanwhile, back in brexitland Liz Truss is preparing for questions in the HoC next week. She has removed 6 questions from the debate that MPs have submitted to her in advance, all questions relating to problems caused by brexit.

Seems if you don't acknowledge it you can pretend it's not happening...

I'm in favour of a balanced discussion that acknowledges the vast amount of good that was also done (West Africa Squadron) and isn't in favour of pulling down statues while keeping the endowments for students (Rhodes scholarship and others).

Yet your balanced discussion technique appears to be to completely ignore the reality of the Empire for most of the colonies, while feeling proud about things like the West Africa Squadron.
