"Raskin outplayed them and Trumps lawyers played themselves by not answering very specific questions yesterday. The republicans can now only threaten to slow down the work of the senate. Witnesses take awhile. Any legislation not passed is still on the Democrats for starting the trial even before relief for the American people. So let there be witnesses." It's not going to work like that. This is reality, Bowser, Pelosi or Hunter Biden's laptop doesn't come into the picture. As much as Graham and Cruz would be prepared to drag this out to impede President Bidens agenda, that's no going to happen. The questions are the same as what Nixon faced. What did the President know and when did he know it. The republicans benefit from turning it into a circus. The democrats want the republicans to acquit and own it in the full knowledge of Trumps actions that day.

Then you wonder why it is rushed in the first place. Investigation and witnesses to everything. It applies. Due process. I am all for conviction if everything is heard and brought out into the open. Let's open this pandora's box.

Trumps call has been entered into the record without objection, this means that Trump knew what the mob was doing and identified with the mob. Now when the republicans acquit they have to own this. Nancy is going to hold their feet to the fire over this.

"I don't want Trump's aquittal if it takes his conviction to show the people everything I am all for it." Trump's conviction was never on the table. The admission of this evidence means the Republicans are acquitting in full knowledge that Trump knew exactly what was happening and he supported it. Before this evidence the Republican could use a procedural excuse to acquit, that excuse just got a whole lot thinner and transparent.

"Aww look they walked back on the witnesses. Looks like aquittal." I'll just repost my last comment "Trump's conviction was never on the table. The admission of this evidence means the Republicans are acquitting in full knowledge that Trump knew exactly what was happening and he supported it. Let that sink in.

Trumps lawyers accepted a statement into the record that Trump had full knowledge and approval of what the mob was sent there to do and was doing. By entering that into the record Raskin removed the defence that they couldn't know what Trump's intent that day was. The alternative was spelled out by Joni Earnst who "warned that they would block any efforts to approve nominations to the Biden administration or pandemic relief legislation should the trial continue. “If they want to drag this out, we’ll drag it out,” said Senator Joni Ernst, Republican of Iowa. “They won’t get their noms, they won’t get anything.” " After the vote on whether the trial was constitutional was supported by 44 republican senators, conviction was never an option. Now Raskin is going to make the GOP own Trumps seditious conduct and inciting insurrection. It won't deter the guns and god supporters but it is going to deter moderate republican supporters. Now Biden will be free to pursue his agenda, perfect is the enemy of good. This is good.

"Pelosi knew he wouldn't be convicted when she had him impeached. She just wanted him to have 2 impeachments for a one term lame duck who lost in a landslide fair election. Pelosi wanted to put the republican senators on the record showing they supported an insurrectionist pretend president. Pelosi may be getting old, but she's wiser than most of the democrats when it comes to politics, and all the republicans, and they know it. Pelosi knew this action would ruin trumps chances to ever hold office again, and she knew it would hurt all the politicians that were stupid enough to follow trumps dictator minded nonsense. It's embarrassing just watching some these trump worshipping idiot politicians that should be smart enough to know better, but I guess they lost their minds by not using them for 4 years. The good republicans politicians need to distance themselves from those idiot trump following politicians. Pelosi also knew all of this would put a lasting nail in trumps coffin when it comes to his historical legacy as the worst president of the United States of America. The Huge trump swamp, that he created himself over 4 years, is being drained away quickly by leaders that have some sense of morals. Our government might not be perfect, but it's light years better without the likes of that idiot trump, and his ass kissing worshippers that enabled his nonsense to go on for 4 years. " It was always political. They knew the republicans wouldn't convict him. It's just about highlighting their lack of integrity.

"Why is McConnell now laying into trump by basically giving the house managers closing arguement... and then not having the spine to vote guilty!" On the grounds the Senate didn't have the authority to convict. However eloquent or articulate his argument is, remember Mitch said he wouldn't hold impeachment hearings before Jan 20.

"If anyone thinks trump is finished or that the millions that support him or would simply just vote for him in the next election because they can't be fucked with the two parties won't do just that, then you're extremely short sighted. There's a lot of short sightedness in politics. How many people thought trump would never become president? How many people thought brexit wouldn't happen? How many people fought, lied, protested over both those events? Trump has millions upon millions of supporters and potentially the opportunity to run and be voted back in just to get rid of Biden, especially if he does a shitty job lol, who believe that dodginess went on with the last election,oh and next time no pandemic to affect anything... He also has a lot of planning and prep time. " He is finished, Trumps ‘supporters ‘ will just back the next popular Republican that comes their way.

"Conviction was never the goal for Pelosi. Even if they had convicted trump in the Senate, it cared no penalty, he is already out of office, so he can't be removed from office. Pelosi knows she ruined trumps chances of ever being elected again. And, she hurt the republican politicians who sided with trump. That was her goal, and she achieved it. Now trump knows his political career is all over, no matter what he says and does, he lost it all. Pelosi won lol. " And made themselves look like hypcritical fools in the process. Moderate Republicans might be dismayed that their party have no integrity (although why anyone is surprised by that is beyond me). But the door is open for the next far right moron to have a pop at being president.

The Us needs a larger 3rd party competition in reality But thats mainly because im against Identity politics and which large parts of the Dem Party peddle, plus their cosying up to crictical race theory grifters And im saying that as a pretty centerist economically and left on social issues LGBT person, how do you think "normal" conseratives feel about stuff like that

He is finished, Trumps ‘supporters ‘ will just back the next popular Republican that comes their way. You actually think that? Seeing as the Republican Party has bled members since loosing the vote i very much doubt that. If he started a new Party he would get nearly as much support They followed Trump because of his personality and politics nothing more He wasn't even a real republican to begin with, the guy went where he could get a ticket thats all, thats why half of the perty didn't even like him to begin with. Lets not forget he probaly only even tried to run for President too stick two fingers up at Obmama for the comments made at a dinner speech in i think 2014ish He said he originally joined the race to be the republican nominee to promote brand Trump. Because he left the democratic party, you really think the dems would of let him run against Hillary? Look at what they did to Bernie Sanders for an example I don't understand the Hillary question. "Staggering Oh you asked about which dems used inflammatory language and rhetoric. If what Trump said was incitement then so was what has been said by certain dems https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aj1Rwlztapg I'm assuming that wasnt followed by a violent insurrection where they tried to topple the gmnt? Again i give you the example of rep Scalise and other staffers that were shot at a basball game in 2017 by a left wing activist that was spurred on by rhetoric from the Dems and mainly Bernie Sanders Do you think Bernie Sanders should of been convicted for incitement?" From what I gather, a line gmnt tried to shoot Scalise. Whereas 100s of people tried to potentially overthrow the gmnt and subvert the election Slightly different

Yes he did he made people realize other options that can be created. Did he shake up the establishment and status quo. Yes again by other people's reactions. They would just use contractors instead. Minimal liability, lower operating costs and still able to exert pressure on foreign powers without committing national forces to a protracted operation. Don’t think that just because Trumps administration didn’t start any new wars or that they pulled troops out of the Middle East there still wasn’t a footprint there from the private sector. Call it dangerous for being nationalistic we following other countries examples not are we not. I see isolation from EU good or bad. Better claim to healthcare taking better care of people like everyone says on here. All you need is a little nationalistic view. NHS for instance. It's a name "National" not UK not British National. So there is nothing wrong with being nationalistic since the world stage is heading in that direction.

And they couldn't make mobile phones or solar panels because these depend upon minerals not found in the USA. Can't see Americans being keen to on the drastic changes to their lifestyles.

"america is one of the few nations in the world that has every commodity, oil, water, steel, coal, plenty of land for crops, population.... it could easily be self sufficient in every way. Well, not really. If you mean could it feed itself then probably yes, but without a lot of the fruit and veg they get from other countries, and the food would be much more expensive. And they couldn't make mobile phones or solar panels because these depend upon minerals not found in the USA. Can't see Americans being keen to on the drastic changes to their lifestyles." Can't they grow fruit in california? Guess my geography teacher was wrong! Lol

People always forget that bit hahaha Seriously - who cares anyway? None of us were alive when any of these shenanigans went down. Then we saw Trump withdrawing from the TPP, threatening to do so with NATO, and so on. Nothing wrong with taking care of your own. The world does not need the US meddling in their affairs anymore. Pretty much everyone on here thinks ok for Chinese expansion. I say fall back and protect the mainland. Quit trying to counter the threat. If the world wants china so be it. Then you wonder why the majority of trump supporters were x military. it's time to stop the "American imperialism".Let China have a crack at it since people around the globe "thinks" it is the best alternative. The world wants china? News to me. If you really think your life would be better under nativism and nationalism, I got a few bridges to sell you. It's nothing more than grievance politics. And yet Brexit did that for the UK. Isolation from EU. UK broke those bridges for their own isolationist agenda. Give me 1 reason why the US should stop China's expansion and not isolate and take care of our own first. Brexit has nothing to do with the topic. Did trumps isolationism aid america in getting vaccines to combat covid? But to be blunt, Nativism and nationalism are pretty dangerous ugly things to amplify. History has shown that repeatedly, most recently with the Capitol insurrection.. You are condemning us for the same exact policy your country is doing. You know the dreaded America first. Show me UK power projection to take on any country besides nukes. Who has that power projection now. What is wrong with us creating the same Utopia that the UK calls themselves. Without projecting power. All for taking our military budget which is designed for global reach and using that for the people.I said that repeatedly on multiple occasions. Social programs better healthcare better infrastructure and yet you condemn us for America First policy. Hypocrisy at its finest. You're avoiding every point I have made so I'll make this simple for you, if you're a rube before america first, guess what you'll be after an america first policy. You did make a point your hatred for Trump. Not the policy he ran on and you have 0 rebuttal for that policy. Call me a rube then. I have a hatred for Right Wing extremism, 21st century nazis and folks that think it's ok to overturn democratic institutions. I have contempt that people that see those ideologies as being of benefit to them. Do you hate the people who tried to overturn the EU referendum in the UK? Brexit doesn't equate to right wing extremism that tried to overturn election results. And for the record, there was nothing vaguely similar unless you want to count Jo Cox MP who was murdered by a right wing extremist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jo_Cox#Murder Opposition to Brexit happened in the courts and parliament" But surely to quote you these are "folks that think its ok to overturn democratic institutions.

"Trump can go but the message of Americans first is still engrained. The trial did not sway that message. If a candidate runs on that message they will retain that vote. Joe manchin everyone I know can get behind. If that man ran on a separate ticket he would pull alot of sway from both sides . Do you not think that Trump's actions as president, putting American people at the bottom of the pile after himself, his pals, and big business, like the fossils fuels industry. Meanwhile sending his lawyers to court, during the worst pandemic in living memory, to take away healthcare from millions of the poorest Americans. Or giving himself and other rich Americans tax breaks. Do you think that the slogan "America first" has been tarnished by his utter disregard for normal Americans? Not where I live the aquittal was a victory not shame it is very much alive. People looking at it if they don't want to address the riots over the summer there is no difference. "MAGA still alive and well see it all over my feeds. Biden was the perfect choice to keep that flame lit. Why isn’t America already great after 4 years of Trump? The number of american jobs fell by 3 million over trumps period in office, which is a record. The national deficit also soared under his rule. " There is a pandemic of course jobs are going to be job losses. Deficits are going up because of the pandemic too. I hope you are aware of that.

"Comparing brexit to the Capitol riots. This place gets more embarrassing by the day " I see similarities. Both tried to corrupt democracy. One succeeded, one failed. Both movements driven by misinformation, propaganda, lies etc. Both movements unironically championing politics that is detrimental to the very people fighting for it.

"Comparing brexit to the Capitol riots. This place gets more embarrassing by the day " No, comparing the feeling towards people who try to overturn the result of a democratic decision. The result of the decision to hold a referendum which was taken by a democratic institution. And the result of which a democratically elected government promised to enact. The hypocrisy of the left knows no bounds

Then get outraged by the thing they've made up. The comparrison you're looking for is between two groups who tried to corrupt democracy. One by storming the capital building in Washington. Was unsuccessful. One by a decades long campaign of misinformation, propaganda and lies, culminating in two illegally funded leave campaigns. Was successful. You can get as angry as you like about people who care about the integrity of democracy. But to assume that anyone who does care is "left", is just silly.
