Brussels humiliated in Russia

In yet another performance of unbelievable crassness, the Brussels foreign secretary Josep Burrell visited Russia to beg for crumbs off Putins table.

Showing exactly how much esteem Russia holds Brussels in, they expelled diplomats from Poland, Sweden and Germany on the same day.

https://www.thefirstnews.com/article/poland-expels-russian-diplomat-19683

Thanks God we’ve left this rubbish behind.

Scrap-ed the bottom of the barrel today by blaming the EU for Russia expelling some diplomats.

I can't be bothered to check of it's even true. Because either way. You've made something of nothing.

Have another go. See if you can come up with something better.

In your mind, what on earth was the EU meeting with Lavrov in Russia for? When they're murdering journalists and imprisoning the opposition. Utterly misjudged.

Are you suggesting the EU should cut ties to countries with human rights abuses?

What about the UK, should we do the same?

It’s called diplomacy... trying to engage with oppressive regimes to get them to to seize the opportunity to have a more constructive dialogue in order to bring about change.

Or are you suggesting that all diplomatic relations are severed with these types of regimes and diplomacy is carried out by threats, sanctions and the barrel of a gun.

Meanwhile the Estonian foreign minister has criticised Borrell, and another EU source says that Borrell is not telling the truth about the talks.

All despotic regimes need useful idiots, and Brussels is fulfilling that purpose wholeheartedly.

And tearing itself apart, again.

We really dodged a bullet getting out of this madness.

I think you're confusing the Netherlands with Sweden.

Netherlands hasn't been mentioned in this thread.

Although I have it on good authority that the Netherlands are furious with Brussels as well.

As long as we get your (US sanctioned) gas pipeline (Germany and France) and let you build us a nuclear power station (Hungary).

The EU's position with Russia gets more mixed daily. It will certainly get hackles up in Washington.

If the EU had allowed a vote to all its member states, a, to be part of an economic community, b, be part of a united EU, ruled from Brussels, then, I predict answer a to be yes, answer b, no.

With a common currency it surely makes sense for those states using it to be controlled from one central organisation. Until that happens the in fighting between states will continue and hold them all back.

If the southern states don't get their tourism this year due to covid I could see the EU financial situation becoming a right mess.
