The largest by land mass, not even in the top 20 by population percentage. The Ming empire was the best, followed by the Roman Empire, the British was very short lived and given up workout a fight

What's population percentage got to do with anything? We've defeated every country in the world militarily, often many times over.

The new Empire is about soft power, it’s now clear with us signing trade deals around the world that we command enormous respect and part of the reason for that is our civilising legacy.

That's what you have to do for resources. Trade deals it's a island. Nothing wrong with trade deals that benefits the population. Soft power is to benefit the homeland. Nothing wrong with that when you can not project power. It's UK stance on military power atm. Makes sense.

So a new empire without the war and slavery. Okay. So tell us more about this soft power, and how retaining some of the trade agreements we had as part of the EU is an "empire"?

"Civilising legacy". Lol.

This earned a separate reply. You should talk to some people from the former colonies and see if they would agree. Or if they think of the multiple atrocities, mass starvation, murder, mass murder, slavery, theft of resources etc comes to their mind.

21 minutes ago you said we were first in slave trading. Now it's Portugal.

Your credibility has taken a hit with me.

Haha. So just to be clear. Neither of us knew without looking up.

To summarise, a person who wants to reinstate the slave trade and go to war with half the world has a lowered opinion of my credibility. I'm comfortable with that.

If it was any other way, I would be questioning myself.

Let me just check.....

Er no, I didn't say either of those things.

To be fair I did volunteer some red coats to America to help with their recent troubles.

I didn’t propose a full scale invasion though.

You've repeatedly called for the empire to be reinstated.

And in this thread said "We've defeated every country in the world militarily, often many times over."

I would assume you're implying that we would need to do this again?

Otherwise, without this and without the slave trade, what exactly are you suggesting?

You assume wrongly

The new Empire is about soft power, it’s now clear with us signing trade deals around the world that we command enormous respect and part of the reason for that is our civilising legacy.

"Civilising legacy". Lol.

This earned a separate reply. You should talk to some people from the former colonies and see if they would agree. Or if they think of the multiple atrocities, mass starvation, murder, mass murder, slavery, theft of resources etc comes to their mind.

"

I am confused

Don't forget slavery.

Definitely first place in slave trading. Maybe that's what this forum poster meant.

No, that'll be Belgium.

Actually it was Portugal. But UK in a close second.

Look you're the one who wants to bring this back. We're allowed to question the wisdom of reinstating the British empire and going to war all around the world.

Thankfully your views here are in the minority.

So a new empire without the war and slavery. Okay. So tell us more about this soft power, and how retaining some of the trade agreements we had as part of the EU is an "empire"?"

Defined in simple terms as the ability to ‘influence the behaviour of others’ through attraction and co-option and by making them ‘want what you want’ (Nye 2004)

Great Britain frequently ranks first in the world:

No need to have empires if you can destroy any country economically. It's the new way to wage wars.
