here

Former President of the ECB Mario Draghi has been asked to try and form a government in Italy.

An ideal appointment for the EU project?

Italy always change government every six months. It’s never made the news here before. I’m glad to see that we are at last more interested in European countries internal politics and that we are less self-absorbed.

Not sure what that means for the EU though.

He is a technocrat and not a politician... which given the way that politicians have run Italy for the last 50-60 years might not be a bad thing....

Whether you like or hate him, he did one hell of a job at the ECB

Probably one that they will breathe a sigh of relief to.

But . . .

In July 2020, senator Gianluigi Paragone formed Italexit, a new political party with a main goal to withdraw Italy from the European Union.

and

According to the Standard Eurobarometer 87 conducted by the European Commission in spring 2017, 48% of Italians tend not to trust the European Union compared to 36% of Italians who do.

So if elected he will have the sound of these parties howling in his right ear.
