"People are starting to get surprised of why they are getting charged more. I read this article of a woman who got more of what she bargained for as for the cost of her coat, it costs £200 but with the added brexit tax it was an extra whopping £82, do people really think that it would be the same cost as before brexit? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/business-55734277 " You don't have to buy European goods, other countries sell coats, or support your local charity shops and help save the planet, or don't lol

Whilst in the EU there was a company who got solar panels from China but because China was outside the EU he was paying up to 40% import duty because the EU rules now he can buy much cheaper from the same source at a much lower tarrif

"Most people have never realised that there has always been import duty on anything bought from abroad especially outside the EU. The only difference was the U.K. was paying up front in the form of the money paid to the eu for the U.K. to be a member. Companies who had to buy from outside the EU always had to pay tariffs on non EU goods " The op was around EU purchases not world costs. What duty and vat did we pay for imports from EU ? Have you costed this 20% increase regarding VAT and customs costs added on top against the cost of EU membership Bet I can tell you which will be cheaper for the individual.

"DSV one of the biggest transport companies in the world so very experienced in customs have just today added 25% to their costs for exporting form the U.K. Must be an issue somewhere for such an enormous company to put prices up so much. Maybe they are wrong and Boris is right! Seamless trade eh. LKW one of the biggest trailer operators in Europe are not taking any non contracted export loads back due to the delays. Quicker and cheaper to go empty which is just a ridiculous reflection on our utter madness with all this. . It will be interesting when customs start checking inbound loads . They may then say fuck you GB and not bother coming here at all. . Another of our trucking suppliers has told 250 of his customers they are no longer working for them on exports as it’s now too costly. Only contracted business like ours is still being accepted and only on certain routes. Imports are being refused. Hauliers that we are managing to keep are increasing prices on top of customs costs. All this is going to push up import prices due to supply and demand. Interesting how this company in the link will be paying some Dutch tax next year like us . https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-55723672 But hey what do I know ! I’ve just done a fag packet calculation allowing for 65% of trade imports being costed. It calculates if we have absolutely no other benefit of the EU such as free movement etc etc etc. And also no account of free access to sell our goods The net is around 3% on all goods. We now have 20% Vat and customs costs. That some comparison you saying hasn’t changed, I’m being very generous with that 3% . I could zero it out quickly with financial services. Given we import 50% of our food we can rely on seasonal veg and lots of potatoes. So corned beef and we will wear oh yes we import 90% of our clothes so probably sack cloth. Hope she doesn’t want to buy and local produced champagne in France or maybe a small producers Belgium pate near Brussels as she won’t get that local. Maybe she can smuggle it in. Buy local to support your local shops against supermarkets is a fine slogan. Buy local against other countries produced goods is just a fantasy. .

"Import costs are not new and people should have been well aware of them in advance of this" Except that over and over and over again through the last five years remainers have kept saying that there would be increases in costs, and over and over and over the brexiters, and boris johnson in particular, have stated that there would be no increase, that in fact prices would go down. Less than a year ago, boris johnson personally assured that there would be frictionless trade, that there would be no customs between england and northern ireland, that the scottish fishermen would be better off, that the farmers would have no problems. The people of the united kingdom were told many many times that catagorically it would be a great deal, it would be a better deal than staying in the common market, that any suggestion of extra costs was a lie. So forgive me if i say that when ordinary people are surprised at import duties and price rises, they should be more than surprised, they should be outraged. Because they were catagorically told there would be no duties, there would be no price rises, there would be no job losses, there would be no factory closures, there would be no transfer of financial institutions to the EU. The people were lied to, it is now clear they were lied to, it is proven that the brexit campaign was a lie, it is proven that the prime minister and all his cabinet are liars.

The fact that he has been sacked from 2 previous jobs lying, should have been a warning. "It seems some people have a problem in supporting UK retailers.!" UK retailers have no bearing on this whatsoever. The fact is that everybody was catagorically promised that we would be able to buy things cheaper, and that there would be no added costs to getting goods from Europe. In any case, where the hell do you think UK retailers get their stock from? Pretty well every single item that you buy in any shop contains components or ingredients from on the continent, or it's manufacturing involves use of machines from Europe, or has some other EU connection. Within every process there is now an increase in costs, every UK retailer will have to put up their prices. There is no possible scenario where making international trade harder allows costs to the UK public to be unchanged. So use a EU retailer, use a UK retailer, it doesn't matter. The prices are going up.

So very unfortunate for the U.K. . In any normal level of scrutiny Boris would have been thrown out before he put a foot into politics whichever side of the fence you sit. The alternatives have been suffocated by the press. Business has no choice but to deal with the shit show on a daily basis. The fallout in jobs has to happen at some point in the future as the costs are increasing in our trades. I’m sure for a fact we’re not alone. I mentioned before Christmas about companies who can’t be arsed with the hassle in the increase in red tape. That’s starting to show in companies moving away from U.K. suppliers. Costa if you have ever dealt with other countries in a business way tell me how all this is better for business to trade with the EU our biggest export market? As an exporter all I'm seeing is costs going up and up. Don’t respond with world trade deals we’ve always been able to sell around the world and nothing in our way . We do that already in high value goods. It’s easier to trade with a market 22 miles away. All the new so called global deals are replicating the EU deals so no additional benefit.

" And do we have the promised land? Have goods become cheaper? Are the British public better off? Is there an extra 350 million available every single week, whether to be used for the NHS or for some other purpose? So why did people vote for brexit? Because they were lied to. They were lied to by farage, by may, by johnson, by rees mogg, by the bbc, by the daily telegraph, by the tabloid media, by many others. They were lied to over and over again. If the election was today, if a new referendum was today, the brexit forces would be utterly crushed. There would not be one single lorry driver, fisherman, farmer, small trader, hospital worker, person buying from the eu, person selling to the eu, northern ireland citizen, scottish citizen - the list goes on - who would now vote to make their life worse.

I read this article of a woman who got more of what she bargained for as for the cost of her coat, it costs £200 but with the added brexit tax it was an extra whopping £82, do people really think that it would be the same cost as before brexit? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/business-55734277 The Country was promised that food, clothing and footwear would be cheaper if we left the European Union. The biggest loud gob spouting this over and over was Jacob R Mogg amongst others. He and the rest of the leave campaignerswwouldn't have lied, would they Reece Mogg in 2019 stated on LBC it would be wrong to have a second referendum now people have more details as they would vote remain. That sums him up in a nutshell . Fuck you poor peasants I’m in for a nice little earner here. https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/news/rees-mogg-admits-if-public-had-informed-decision-now-second-referendum-would-overturn-brexit-vote/02/09/ Funny how the last election was really about brexit and get brexit done annihilated the opposition and as for the definitly remain mob they have been sent into oblivion . And do we have the promised land? Have goods become cheaper? Are the British public better off? Is there an extra 350 million available every single week, whether to be used for the NHS or for some other purpose? So why did people vote for brexit? Because they were lied to. They were lied to by farage, by may, by johnson, by rees mogg, by the bbc, by the daily telegraph, by the tabloid media, by many others. They were lied to over and over again. If the election was today, if a new referendum was today, the brexit forces would be utterly crushed. There would not be one single lorry driver, fisherman, farmer, small trader, hospital worker, person buying from the eu, person selling to the eu, northern ireland citizen, scottish citizen - the list goes on - who would now vote to make their life worse." stop talking crap all will be fineBrexit is great for tis country you will learn one day

"It will be the easiest trade deal on history, the eu need us more than we need them and they will be begging us to stay. We will take back control, not to be subject to eu corruption ,we will trade with the world and it will be a total success. It will take 3 years of wrangling and we will come close to crashing out without a deal. Jobs will go,shelves will be empty, there will be delays, you will need to take out a mortgage to get your weekly shop and you wont see the benefits for 50 years, whilst we line our pockets to the tune of £50b." You what mate?? This just another of your anti Brexit rambles?

It possibly wouldn't have made a very catchy slogan on the bus: - Vote Brexit! - You will be worse off! - Your children will be worse off! - Your grandchildren will be worse off! - Your great-grandchildren might break even! - But it's going to be worth it by 2070!

"It will be the easiest trade deal on history, the eu need us more than we need them and they will be begging us to stay. We will take back control, not to be subject to eu corruption ,we will trade with the world and it will be a total success. It will take 3 years of wrangling and we will come close to crashing out without a deal. Jobs will go,shelves will be empty, there will be delays, you will need to take out a mortgage to get your weekly shop and you wont see the benefits for 50 years, whilst we line our pockets to the tune of £50b. You what mate?? This just another of your anti Brexit rambles? Before we left..did they admit we wouldn't see the benefits for 50 years? One man made that comment and you base your whole argument on that ,it also happens to be a man who you believe is only in it for himself you really couldnt make it up. When are we going to see benefits then? Surely when going into a trillion pound project that will fundamentally affect the life of every UK citizen there is a costs/benefits analysis and a timescale? Just show me a quote, any quote, by any one of the brexit architects that says when it's going to get good. Because at the moment JRM's "50 years" is the only one we've got. They don't have too,its done. I suspect there will be some backtracking over the next few months. And once covid Is over and we are left with paying that money back, even more cuts, and the post brexit era..its not going to be pretty. So now we're lumping covid and cuts to get some of that money back with Brexit? I say blame Brexit for all Nope. I said once covid is over, we will be left with footing the bill. " Of course we will be left footing the bill. Just like the whole world. But what does it have to do with Brexit? You're the one who put them in the same sentence

"People are starting to get surprised of why they are getting charged more. I read this article of a woman who got more of what she bargained for as for the cost of her coat, it costs £200 but with the added brexit tax it was an extra whopping £82, do people really think that it would be the same cost as before brexit? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/business-55734277 " Did you actually read the article?: “The new VAT model ensures goods from EU and non-EU countries are treated in the same way and that UK businesses are not disadvantaged by competition from VAT-free imports. "The new system also addresses the problem of overseas sellers failing to pay the right amount of VAT when they sell goods in the UK”

Same goes for most of the hysterical shrieks you’ve given the country a headache with over the past five years." You’re making that up Your claim that it was ok to bring oranges from South Africa was debunked as simply untrue. Spain is the worlds biggest and most efficient producer and costs along with pollution and logistics costs mean South Africa and Egypt are way behind on costs and pollution. You didn’t allow for nautical miles or real shipping miles if you can remember and certainly didn’t allow for dirty heavy oils which account for most of the world’s shipping fleet. EU trucks are updating beyond EURO six and will probably be electric 30years before deep sea ships even stop using heavy dirty oil. No comparison whatsoever . For the record EU waters east of the U.K. have for at least 10 years been subject to punitive taxes on dirty oils so ships have been moving to cleaner diesel. Shippers have paid in increased taxes. The law was expanded to include west of the U.K. down to Spain a couple of years ago. European shippers have chosen either to install scrubbers or replace ships with cleaner engines to avoid the punitive tax rates. Cleaner Ships are quickly taking the place of dirty ships in the European region. Globally ships are being made to change their ways but they have until 2050.

But your point is interesting as I’ve checked three industry figures regarding export and they all put Egypt and Spain neck and neck but if you use the EU as a whole then it’s twice as much production as Egypt. So again my mistake for saying Spain rather than EU as I was not clear. Either way cheaper and less pollution from EU oranges and an almost year round supply due to main four varieties being harvested at different times.

"Sounds like good news for UK retailers to me. Just stick to buying stuff in the UK. I’ll now just buy those Oranges grown in Lanarkshire rather than Spain.... If you take a look back last week the oranges fallacy was dealt with comprehensively and it was proved how much better off we would be post Brexit. Same goes for most of the hysterical shrieks you’ve given the country a headache with over the past five years. You’re making that up Your claim that it was ok to bring oranges from South Africa was debunked as simply untrue. Small point of order ... Egypt just scraped ahead of Spain and South Africa to become the worlds largest orange exporter by volume - 1.8m/MT, 1.7m/MT, 1.2m/MT Actually the world biggest producer is Brazil followed by the USA then I think India . " I was going to post about Brazil but I figured whats the point lol. If people are prepared to tell brazen lies it just reduces their credibility anyway. I mean, look at Trump as a prime example. “Magnificent, the best oranges ever, something very special.....” Lol

Brazil is the worlds largest producer of the fruit, but I think most of this is juiced, which makes them the worlds largest exporter of FCOJ (50% of all the orange juice d*unk in the world comes from Brazil ) Anyway for Egypts claim to the orange (whole, complete, not juiced) export crown, freshfruitportal is your friend

"Import costs are not new and people should have been well aware of them in advance of this" I work for a company that exports 80% outside the UK, what are export and import costs, shipping rate is just that, duty is just that, VAT is just that, handling charge is just that. There is a lot of profiteering going on at the moment. Use a global courier and suddenly the costs are sensible. We might have left the EU, we were told to get ready, it was not hard, some of it retailers should have been doing it anyway. A correctly labelled parcel going to the EU should be treated the same as a parcel that arrives in the EU from the US. At the moment this is not happening, the EU were either not ready or being unhelpful. It also highlighted a problem in a not so united EU, if a lorry uses French point of entry it has to have certain paperwork, for Spain different paperwork to France, so much for 27 United States. On the 1st July it all changes,if you sell into EU then VAT of the parcel destination must be collected at the point of sale, this will apply for parcels worth less than E135.00. This is just like sending items to NZ from the UK, nothing new and not a Brexit thing, but introduced to ensure VAT is collected on sales from the likes of Ebay and Alibaba type shops. Shipping agents will be responsible for the VAT transfer to each destination. If the EU cannot manage now then 1st July it will be mayhem for them.

It will be mayhem for us mostly and hurt business. I don’t have experience of small exports so can’t comment. The U.K. authorities can’t manage customs so blaming the EU is a bit kettle and pot! We export worldwide but transit documentation for the FTLs to the EU is only delayed by the UK customs offices . No one else. Ridiculous delays resulting in high demurrage charges . We’ve stopped two self drive routes this week as the costs are just getting silly. Our knowledge of customs costs is fine even though it’s now reduced profits on European business and put us at a disadvantage to EU suppliers, however the staggering incompetence of the customs process we could never have planned for. Hauliers are warning us they may stop coming to the U.K. permanently if it continues. I keep hearing this everyone should have been ready. The government process was announced on the 24th of December on their website so you had to be looking for it! How can business possibly prepare for that at such short notice and where is the chance of automation ? We have been forced to open offices in The Netherlands and France to by pass our own government’s incompetence . Reports that the advice being given by government advisors over the delays and extra costs is for UK firms to open offices in the EU.. Another brexit bonus albeit ironic.. Not government advisors Department for international trade, according to the report.. Observer front page.. And as other posters with direct real time knowledge have already said it's what is happening in some larger companies already.. Is that what was meant by taking back control etc? The DIT trade advisors are part of the regional offices who are there to help, advise and support businesses and companies in their region with exporting primarily, but also with expanding business and opening new markets overseas. Targets to meet in terms of getting businesses in the region signed up to services offered by DIT (trade missions, overseas market studies etc) Used to be called UKTI when I knew a few of these trade advisors, and had some contact with them - most of the time they were people who had some business experience, and there are some very good knowledgable people who are excellent, however a lot of the time they couldn't help with specific information and would signpost you to external information. most of the time were more concerned with “ticking boxes”. That's why I'm not surprised by the piece in the Observer. Employed by the local DIT offices they are - like a person employed by hmrc to process tax returns is. Spin? Context " Pah..

"Import costs are not new and people should have been well aware of them in advance of this I work for a company that exports 80% outside the UK, what are export and import costs, shipping rate is just that, duty is just that, VAT is just that, handling charge is just that. Remainers have a lot to answer for." Yes we could have seen companies with five years of costs and watched as some of them go bankrupt. Do you not understand that the payments are mostly going to Europeans in all these extra costs and the registered companies will be paying tax in those countries all a loss for U.K. .

"So we are being told by the same people that "everything is fine, nothing to see here" and "yes, there are problems with what I voted for but it's the fault of the people who didn't vote for it". Which is it? It can't be both. " Good question.

I read this article of a woman who got more of what she bargained for as for the cost of her coat, it costs £200 but with the added brexit tax it was an extra whopping £82, do people really think that it would be the same cost as before brexit? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/business-55734277 And if she’d brought it from America, or Ghana, or Japan, she’d have paid the same duty as from Europe. Seems eminently fair to me. If you want to argue about reducing the overall tax burden, VAT levels etc then I’m all for that. But why on Earth should countries in Europe get special privileges. Ridiculous. So you recommend paying more for purchases as a good thing ? Interesting . We had the same privileges in reverse and as a result were Europe’s leading operator of small online retail companies. That’s leading position is quickly dissolving into oblivion. Nope, I corrected that fallacy a couple of weeks ago. I linked you a report that UK online retailers were now in a much more competitive position because of VAT enforcement since Jan 1st around the world that instantly increased the price of for example ripped off Chinese goods by 20% and gave UK manufacturing a chance. As I say, I’m all for reducing taxation levels, but that’s nothing to do with Brexit. What is to do with Brexit is not letting foreigners tax dodge. Are you ok with good old British tax dodgers? Nope, they all need to be in prison. Not sure who to vote for to make that happen however? The EU have started going after tax dodgers so if only we were members oh hang on..... Our elite paymasters made sure we were no where near that legislation . The true reason for Brexit in my opinion . Exactly If only they UK companies set up an offshore company in Europe though. OOO thats now goverment advice. Offshore tax heaven tax free account still ok...Check.....the oinks can get on with it then " You’re getting yourself confused The EU registration is to avoid customs not tax . The tax will now be paid in Europe not the U.K. but it’s easier to do business with less red tape .
