"Yes. Dont delve further unless you are emotionally up to it" It's a horror story, but that's only the surface detail of a bigger picture. It is tied into the history of Ireland and the church.

As much as the church is front and centre in this, the Irish State was also complicit.

The reason no real personal blame will be attributed is because the politicians that allowed this to happen are still in power in the form of sons, grandsons nephews etc such is the way of Irish political dynasties.

I think the power of the church has diminished to almost nothing now. But it was a complex long running institutional failure to address what happened. The individual religious orders involved all issued seperate apologies There's a lady called Catherine Corless, a mother, grandmother and amateur historian who deserves all the credit for putting such detail to this scandal. There's some interviews with her on YT, but if can you read the article the NY Times did on her a few years, I really recommend it.

"I'm pretty sure all this business in Tuam was well known at certain levels of local and national government but a blind eye turned They must have. Bastards. Same as higher levels in the Church." just about everyone in Ireland knew about these places, especially the fathers and mothers who sent their daughters to be incarcerated in these places, it was a common warning by parents to there bold children that "if you don't behave i will send you to the nuns" The church is taking all the blame but everyone in Ireland was complicit in these crimes, when young people today comment to me about these times i tell them to go and ask there parents or grandparents about their dirty secrets
