“A council leader has issued a 'stay local' warning amid surging Covid cases - from the sun-drenched luxury of an island in the Maldives.

Angie Dale, leader of the local authority at the heart of Chancellor Rishi Sunak's Richmondshire constituency, spoke as Covid cases rise sharply in the area governed by her council.

In a press release on Friday January 8 she warned: 'It is vitally important that people heed the stay local message.'

At that time Mrs Dale and her family were enjoying the crystal waters of the Indian ocean from a beach on the Maldivian island of Kudahuvadhoo.“

Is this true Chris? Gobsmacked by the arrogance of her if so ! There’s no wonder people are ignoring the governments advice so much. Cummings was the start of the rot!

Disgraceful, if she has broken any rules she needs to be prosecuted

Wouldn’t have been surprised but apparently the tories lost control and she’s an independent.

Was in tier 2 when she left apparently so maybe not technically breaking the rules but still arrogant beyond belief.

Much as it pains me to say this: would it have been less of an issue if she’d been in Calais, Malaga, the Isle of Man or Ireland? She seemingly broke no rules so is it driven by

1) that she is in a warm, sunny place when many people can’t afford a holiday or simply are not able to travel due to restrictions

2) that the destination suggests wealth, a reality of some but an anathema to others, so is driven by envy?

And if so, perhaps we need to look at ourselves and readjust our sense of injustice.

People will react how they feel. Maldives isn't particularly interesting to me due to lack of golf, I don't personally think people should be going on holiday at all.

So for me, no difference be it Calais or Bognor or the Maldives, YMMV

Do we know when she went? She may have gone out before the harsher restrictions...

Not defending her... just think the full facts should come out before we drop the hammer

She went when North Yorksire was in tier 2.

As the Maldives are on the travel corridor list, then she won't have to quarantine on return...... although she might wish that she could!

She wouldn't have gotten into the IOM, they closed their borders last year. No one is allowed in or out, unless it is for essential travel.

Didn’t Stephen Kinock break the rules first, & isn’t there still the ex SNP minister hanging round picking up her pay cheque that knew she had covid & still decided to get a train from London to Scotland, it’s not just the Torys.
